I am not especially qualified to help with this (I am not a bike mechanic), but it isn't very difficult and I have changed cranksets and bottom brackets many times.
1) try pedalling standing up, it may be the saddle/seatpost, you'd be surprised.
2) you can do it yourself, but you will need some bike specific tools. Read Sheldon Brown's website and here and look at youtube. IF you think you're likely to want to keep maintaining it yourself, maybe buy a small bike tool kit. You will need a crank extractor and a bottom bracket tool. It could be that the bottom bracket is loose in the frame and needs tightening. It could be that the crank is loose on the bottom bracket and needs tightening. [It looks like it is a square taper bottom bracket and crankset - Sheldon can explain] If it is the latter and you've left it too long you may never get it tight enough as the square taper hole in the crank will have got too big.
You may get away with just tightening it.
You may need to replace only the cranks, or only one crank.
You could do the most comprehensive job and buy a new crankset and a new, sealed bottom bracket and learn to do it all.
write down any ID numbers etc that are on any parts you remove!
second attempt, last one disappeared...
