  • There is such a thing. Completely adjustable to any blade style, way better stones than lansky, nice and sturdy stand.

    4-5* the price though.

    And forgot how it's called.

  • gonna be in the south of france, Sete. Not looking to go all zen sharpening them, but as you say don't want to be frustrated with blunt knives that wouldn't slice an onion. And not looking to buy knives in the local supermarket which aren't good enough for me to take home and use again, though I suppose those could be my travelling knives...

  • £30 for the butterly is fine cos it's dmt so will last several lifetimes....

Corny - just take an opinel

  • looking at opinel's website, might be a thought to buy a 12 and 10, and just have them as travelling cooking blades...

  • not looking to buy knives in the local supermarket which aren't good enough for me to take home and use again>

Opinel from Super U should be 8€. Sabatier also tend to be sub 20€.

The really little cheap knives are insainely Sharpe.

  • These scissors are lovely. The likelihood of me having grandchildren is exceedingly remote, but if I do, they will be able to squabble over the scissors.

  • I bought the missis a pair from that company the general purpose office ones. they are ace, all that tapping makes the difference.

  • I'm flying to the UK tomorrow and it looks like I will not be taking a knife with me. I own about 50 knives but it looks like none of them are legal in the UK :S. I'm not even able to take my multi-tool with me! Even the small pocket knife I take with me to work to open packages and whatnot, is illegal.

  • Nor do we allow guns.

    Shocking innit?

  • I think very few knives are actually illegal, maybe flick-knives only. But most knives are illegal to carry without good reason.
You can fly with (legal) knives in the hold, no problem, just not in hand luggage.

  • Ex-armed forces? 😐

  • Buy a knife here. Then take it back home. Then you will have 51 knives.

  • Just cleaned out my campervan ready to sell and found this little gem which is surplus to requirements, so with bikepacking season upon us I thought I'd offer it up if anyone is interested?
Small, but perfectly formed Snail Brand. Handle is a little dry and has a couple of nicks but still perfectly servicable. Head is sharp and ready to go.

    £20 collected/£25 posted sound fair?

  • Not incredibly helpful but a fair number of tobacconists have them. I'm sure there's somewhere around Holborn that I've walked past any number of times but can't remember where off the top of my head.

Slightly less central but Decathlon have them or you can get them next day delivery from Amazon.

  • A-Z electrical in Soho, a fresh light Opinel no7 for a new edc, thanks @aggi

  • Does anyone have a recommendation for a cheap (sub £20) multi tool?

So I bought a cheapo multitool from China and I'm still waiting. In the meantime however, I came across this Bahco MTT8674...and bought two.

There's a good review somewhere online, but I have to say for the money it's not bad.

A million miles from a Leatherman - pretty rough finish, a couple of tool access design flaws, blunt as anything, naff holster...

But with a bit of TLC it's not bad. I used some dry chain lube on the joints, sharpened it as much as I had patience for and dremeled some extra groves. Now it's a perfectly decent multitool. Top selling points are the corkscrew, ruler and the Allen key bolts so it's easy to mod/improve.

The holster is actually fine. It just looks shit.

Anyway not exactly porn, but I'd recommend if you're after something cheap and most importantly comes with a corkscrew!

  • Difficult or maybe impossible to have too many axes IMO.

Are you in London? Will collect if you are within easy biking distance from E17.

  • Draw in the new kitchen. Will be out once we've painted

  • Did you get the Kai from T K Maxx by any chance? I bought a Kai Santoku from there for £11, it is the sharpest knife I own, phenomenal bargain.

  • You can get at least a couple of sizes at Labour & Wait in Shoreditch - other than that I think that Cotswold Outdoors stock them.
