• @xavierdisley OT. But I know you're the Q-Factor king.
I've a pair of shimano pedals that are 3mm longer in axle than another pair of shimano pedals.
I think I can feel this 3mm and that it's irritating my knee.

Is that possible or am I just imagining it? The irritation in my knee is legit, but is the 3mm wider pedal possibly the cause?

  • 6mm total? It could be yes, worth isolating if you can. Especially if you're a rider that would find a 6mm adjustment elsewhere (eg. saddle setback/height) an immediate issue, you could find Q Factor to be similar.

One of the things we were trying to do with our research was to help people think about the bike in 3 dimensions, rather than just adjustments side on/2D/whatever. At one point we were going to rig up strain gauges all over handlebars and TT bars to find out stresses etc. with wide and narrow bars too.

  • Thank xav. Yes 6mm total, each pedal spindle is 3mm longer.

When I first got on it, I just had the sensation my legs were wider that before. Without even measuring.

I'll swap pedals around tomorrow and see how it is with the shorter spindle. As far as I can see, both cranks (different brand) are the same Q-factor. Ultegra 6800 and Rotor 3d plus.
