Remembering your love for the CAAD10, does that feel like an upgrade?

Comfort wise- yes. Do it all- noº.
Still would suggest the CAAD10 as one of the best do it all bikes ever made.

(ºbased purely on tyre width).

It is quicker as far as I can tell- based on PM readings vs speed.

Luckily, the 2016 Hi-mod come with massive tyres clearance, but take your point about the CAAD10/12.

had my ss evo hm headset creaking a lot - is this a common issue?

Mine wont take 28s but some nice wide rims and 25 does about the same job.

Absolutely sure it's the headset? Take everything apart, grease those bits which are meant to be greased, carbon paste those which are meant to be carbon pasted.

I only say that because I was convinced my SS Himod headset/bars were fucked, stripped it all only to find it was my saddle rails. Sounds travel in odd ways through carbon.

This is probably a very stupid question to ask, but have you preload the headset?

Fairly sure it's the headset - it's when climbing/pulling on bars that I hear it. There's a tiny tiny bit of play if I have the front brake on and move the bike back and forth.

Headset was assembled by a mech that I trust, then when the steerer was chopped, re-assembled by another mech. Both guys know their stuff. Second guy did say to come back if there were any issues so will probably just pop in and ask him to have a look.

Quite likely the headset is settling in and got loose after a short while.

Loosen bolt on stem, tighten top cap a bit, then torqued stem bolt back to 5Nm.

Yeah I just had a closer look today, I think it'll be a struggle with the seat tube and the clamp I'm using as well. My rims are 23mm wide so some 25s would be plush anyway!

Currently have 23s on there.

Since settling back in NZ I managed to pick this up for almost nothing for my wife to ride on gravel paths, to the wharf, wineries etc. She loves it but I can't find out anything about what exactly it is!

They did a touring version of the killer-v . Might be one of those.

Does that headshok have an airspring? Top it up if so. Might be a coil/mcu, in which case it's unserviceable

What a great collection of catalogues. I can't log in on my iPad but i spent a couple of hours browsing them last night. I think you are right it is some sort of circa 1993 Delta V700. I've never seen them before. It is ideal for our purposes as Mrs Enigmatic has no desire to mountain bike or don lycra and join in with bunch rides, she just likes a quiet ride down to the beach / any alcohol source.

The headshock does not appear to be an airspring either from the bike or the catalogue. The rubber bellows is fairly new and a bit long which makes it look saggy. It all feels ok though when I ride it and I'm 80kgs although compared to a modernish fork the rebound is pretty uncontrolled - how do you know if they are worn?

Definitely my headset that's creaking. Took @edscoble advice and retightened it but no dice. Back to the shop sometime this week...
