That's an awesome shot.
If you're still having issues with Spyres, look for CX77 and Yokozuna Reaction combine.

having never ridden 650b before i'm impressed, beautifully smooth, still handles like a 700c road bike.
Only took you two years eh?

I put some of these on the other day, seem nice but want something slicker.

What a beauty! Jan Heine would be proud :D

Hi I'd like to experiment with the 650b wheels on my bike. What are my rim options for rim brake. Cheaper is better.
-
• #107
@mindzioras I'm investigating this too at present. I've only found 3 so far, velocity dyad, velocity atlas and VO Diagonale, all are circa £50 and all seem to come in 32 or 36h.
Does anybody know of any others rim brake 650Bs please?

@willhouse your blue 650B in the pic upthread, can I ask what frame that is please? Is there a build thread?
-
• #109
Panceti SL23, velocity blunt..? Loads of mtb rims out there, must be a few that are rim compatible.

Thanks! It's a custom, made by me... ha ha... no build thread. Although I might do a retrospective one. Plenty of shots on my Instagram @outhousepics
Much appreciated @tyeness it's not amazing, but not bad for a first build. Learnt a lot for the second incarnation...
@TheShipwright Stans rims too, WTB KOM i25... loads of mtb 27.5 rims to go at.

@TheShipwright my bad - just saw the rim brake compatible... you may struggle... check A Cycles for the Grand Bois options...

@willhouse the frame looks great a very nice job. I fancy doing a frame course when I get some time. @gandalf cheers for the suggestions I'll check em out.
Cheers -

Loved my frame course - book sooner rather than later if you have an itch to do one as the waiting lists can be quite a while. I built a track bike with Dave Yates, then did the 650b frame on my own at home.

I mailed Velocity and got this about Dyads
"Sorry but these are hard to come by. The biggest reason is because they are only available at one of our distributors locations. We had them made for a particular customer who wanted an exclusive for 1 year before we could sell them to anyone else. That year is up, however they wont be in stock here, until end of April. I can either put them on back order for you. Or you can check with http://www.Handsonwheels.com to see if they have any. Otherwise I have some A23’s in a 650b size"
-
• #116
I prefer to avoid the A23 as they're fairly weak.
The other option are the Atlas which is awesomely strong and not too heavy (compared to the Dyads)

The ulimate choice for a disc brakes 650b rims is the DT Swiss XR331, weight a mere 340g for the 650b sizes.
for a cheaper option, DT Swiss X392 at 415g still lighter than a road rims.

Does anyone have a wheel set I could try on a bike in the near future to check BB height and clearances? Central London basically. Coffee/ beer in return.
-
• #120
I lived central, have wheel

• #121
Will be in touch. Need headset 1st.
-
• #122
Have them, they're decent, my preference is the Grand Bois 650b rims, a good balance of weight, strength and longevity.

What are the most recommended long drop brakes if going down the rim braking route?
-
• #125
The Tektro long reach one work great.
Just finished building up my cotic escapade 650b tonight and gave it its first ride
having never ridden 650b before i'm impressed, beautifully smooth, still handles like a 700c road bike
