  • If I remove the anodising from a swiss army knife (like the one below) will I do anything more to it other than remove the anodising? Are there any parts inside it that will dissolve/get ruined?

  • The fresh aluminium surface will form its own oxidation barrier and be fine.
    The blades are all stainless and so will be fine (ref), but the spacers between the blades are aluminium (ref) so will object violently (literally) to the hydroxide mixture you'll need to remove the anodising. The brass pivots will probably be ok, but only because the aluminium will be taking all the heat! There's some more information here if you're interested.

    The alternative is an abrasive, but that'll ruin the texture and logo. Not to mention that aluminium oxide is very hard and so you'd use lots of abrasive to make it work!
