I've changed tack slightly. I'm not charging anything for the badges I already have, people can make a donation to Macmillan (or any cancer charity actually), but I'm not asking anything except that people keep in touch with me and tell me how they get on with them.
Far from getting all legal on my ass, Tfl really like the idea, and have asked me to work with them. They already have a thing called a Travel Support Card, which makes it easier for disabled people to make themselves known to station staff if they need help on public transport.
They have been looking for ways to expand the scheme, so that it covers people asking fellow passengers for help as well. It won't just be for cancer, but for a whole range of hidden illnesses and disabilities. An "MS on board" badge has already been requested...
We also need to cater for people who don't want to advertise the fact that they are ill. It's a very private matter and some people just don't like wearing badges. Oyster card wallets with medical info and a request for assistance have been mentioned.
Watch this space. It looks as if I'm going to be a spokesman for this when it gets rolled out. What we need now is feedback and tweaking of the badge design, and hopefully to attract a sponsor.
Ha, I work for Macmillan and heard about this from an email that went around to tell staff how awesome you are - had no idea until just now you were a forumenger. Excellent work!
