  • Joking, I'd lose spectacularly...

  • Both decide.

  • on a serious note, cheers for the votes, am quite flattered (especially this week) and more than pleased to share the spoils with oat44 - congrats bro. Great theme and some seriously good submissions - but rep to all for submitting something, am really enjoying the thread. I actually voted for @shinkuu_kiss but there were loads I liked.

kubrick is a tough theme to follow up on, the bar has been raised.. I was going to suggest something to do with photojournalism - but I actually think balance is a good shout, so very happy to go with that.

    cheers again x

  • ps, this is going straight on my record of achievement

  • On reflection #balance would be too similar to the Kubrick one. I'm more than happy to go with @greeno's theme.

  • Comgrats to everybody. There were far more entries than i expected.

If it comes down to me i choose @greeno photo.
My reasoning its that it incorporated the human element. The trapped in symmetry that i mentioned. the uneasiness. Looks uncomfortable in a suit :). Hope you got the job eventually.

@oat44 great job. Your shot was original and if the theme was only kubrick i may have gone for that one.

Congrats again to all and @greeno we are waiting for the next assignment.

  • Oh yes, just as a side note, I've now released the 'how $person voted' sheet and the calculation sheet for the graph on my google sheet here - https://goo.gl/c2qSnI

Let me know if it doesn't show up, I think they should do.

  • Well done @greeno, fully accept @panic's reasoning

  • Good stuff all round guys, great entries from everyone and glad to see more getting involved.

  • balls - the pressure. but cheers @panic , and @oat44 , still say we split it. ( @MrDrem also great work on the voting again).

Okay, don't think I can compete with the kubrick theme but here goes. Personally I really enjoy photojournalism - just capturing something that tells a story about something that is happening wherever you are. I remember tina posting this photo on here ages ago ( @ItkI - i hope you don't mind me reposting).

I thought it was great as it was, but then afterwards tina explained that it was a protest on international women's day against a chemist that doesn't sell the pill, and I thought the added context made it brilliant.

Might be hard to come across something like that, but just capture something happening wherever you are. Don't want it to be too difficult - more than anything i'd rather it be something everyone can join in on without having to go too out of their way. Could be a concert or event you might go to this week, could just be bad weather or a cake sale in a local church, or something you see on you way to work - honestly whatever.

Hope that's alright. Let's call it #a_week_in_pictures . @mi7rennie 's northern lights would have cleaned up here! Just this once, captions are strongly encouraged - let's say max two sentences though.

(....or we could just go with #balance ?!)

  • Great theme. I'm loving the thought people are putting into it.

  • phew, glad that's alright.

  • Another fantastic, challenging theme. Thanks (and congrats) @greeno & @oat44

  • Good theme. Sorry to vote twice neither vote was for my photo. Second vote was for @MrDrem a. In order to see results b. A momentary moment of madness c. To reward mrD or all his effort.... Wont happen again

  • @MrDrem - thanks again for the voting mechanics.
Would still love a site that puts all the entries together so one can properly view / compare them.
Is that google thing capable of showing entries as images instead of links?

  • @Everybody that entered - good work all 'round, seriously.
Really cool to see how this thread is pushing everybody, as one can see in the other threads as well!

    @greeno - congratulations!
Ha, no I don't mind you reposting this; it's funny as I just walked by that pharmacy the other day and realized that I don't do much of this "reportage" style photography any more.
Nice theme - curious what people will come up with, also hope I'll find the time to shoot something myself this week!

  • hah! ;)

a.) results are now in their own sheet - https://goo.gl/c2qSnI it'll be a new link every week, and I'll try to include it more obviously at top and bottom of my post.
    b.) .
    c.) many thanks :)

  • I think it can, I'm not sure of the mechanics of it, or how much extra time it'll add, I'll have a bit of a play.

  • Cool, thanks.
Though it would be really great to have it inside the microcosm instead of with google.

@Velocio - would it be possible to do a search for a certain hashtag within a conversation that only displays the pictures attached to posts tagged with said hashtag?

  • Yeah, trivial.

Here's a search for this thread, the hashtag #architecture and comments that have attachments:

    https://www.lfgss.com/search/?q=%23architecture&type=conversation&type=comment&id=282005&has=attachment&sort=date

    Achieved by:
    1) Visit the conversation
    2) In the right-hand bar enter the hashtag you want to find in the "Search conversation" box and hit enter
    3) On the search results, in the right-hand bar, click the filter for "Has attachment"

  • This gives me a list of posts that have an attachement.

What would be needed here is a search that displays the images themselves,
all images with a certain hashtag, a list to individual posts we do already have with the google thing.

    Maybe it's me (win7, FF44 here)?

  • Yes, the search results is what you get, not the attachments themselves.

There's no good answer to this other than to wait for the Q&A functionality.

The API for the search doesn't return attachments as it is: https://lfgss.microcosm.app/api/v1/search?q=%23architecture&type=conversation&type=comment&id=282005&has=attachment&sort=date and so they can't be shown in the results (or instead of them).

If I did make that change, it would break the search for far too many other things.

Hell, we don't even have thumbnails, so I can't even show a tidied up version of the attachments.

The best thing to do is to cope, and wait.

  • Ah ok, think you just misread my initial question.

Thanks for the feedback though, and thanks for you efforts, we'll cope and wait then!
    Cheers.

  • Yeah, I initially read it wrong. Sorry.
