Herne Hill Saturday Training

  • The sun really took it out of my today, that and the sprinting.

  • Sprinting is my favourite, but I need to use a bigger gear.
On one of the sprints we did in threes I was keeping a guy on a flash bike behind me and to my right, I let the chap on the stadium bike pull away on the inside thinking when it was time I'd be able to catch someone on one of those. I didn't! I went too late and he just beat me; I was too busy minding the other guy who wasn't that fast.

Don't underestimate riders on stadium bikes and/or riders with hairy legs!

  • I won the next one (-:

  • Don't underestimate the 15 year old kids too, I got beaten by one because I was busy watching the other guy.

  • 15 year old kids came 1st and 2nd overall in track league last year..

  • My first inters session for a while yesterday. Massive props to the coaches for dealing with such a large and disparate bunch of riders, and still giving us all a pretty good workout.

  • Couldnt find the right place to ask this. I'm booked on to the training accreditation on Sunday at HHV .... but wanted to check it was definitely training accreditation and not racing accreditation - as I've been told it's not always clear. Who would know?

  • .

  • Did you book through rider hq? Sunday 26th is showing as a training accreditation, not race.

  • I did - but someone was saying at training that she booked for training and found out that Sunday sessions are all racing accreditation.I may be overthinking it

  • Hmmmmmm, I didn't have any issues going through mine...
Maybe she meant the Sunday session requires race accreditation, which the morning one does?
I'm sure it'll be fine, good luck! And arrive in good time :)

  • what time is the training on Sat? 12pm? thinking of coming down to do a more structured session after last week's induction then racing. (which was fun, but chaotic for a n00b)

  • 12-1 for novice training, then to move to the Intermediates you need to do a training accreditation which is booked online. Intermediates is 10 - 12.

  • yeah the induction dude said it's recommended doing about 5 novice sessions before applying. either way, I'll be there for the 12pm session. thanks

  • Cool. Yeah it's worth doing a few because in the accreditation they will expect you to know how to do certain exercises which may not be covered if you just go once or twice to the beginners.

  • @ObiWomKenobi
If you're thinking you'd like to move to the Inters session it's a good idea to keep an eye on when the accreditation sessions are (none currently listed as far as I know) as they seem to fill up very quickly. You might get lucky and be able to turn up on the day to take a non-shower's place but obviously there's the risk that there are none.

  • thanks... baby steps for now...

  • See Herne Hill Velodrome Twitter account for details of Winter programme.

  • https://www.facebook.com/events/153299241715433/ - if any of you fancy sticking around after inters in a few weeks' time...

  • Can anyone clarify what's going on at Herne Hill with regards to Induction, Basic and Intermediate sessions?

I did basics and some intermediates a couple of years ago, then the accreditation system changed and I haven't had a chance to get back since.

I've had a look at the Herne Hill website, and understand the new session pathway, but when I look at the calendar page I get this: Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them. and the calendar's blank.

Are sessions not running yet, or am I missing something vital?

  • Saturdays are now on the winter schedule, until March:

There are various induction / accreditation sessions coming up...have a look on RiderHQ to find/book them.

  • Thanks!

So it looks like the beginner's accreditation is the only one I could do without a new card (presumably my old stamped card won't be worth anything?).

That's full and it doesn't look like there's another beginner's accreditation coming up... Any idea how regularly they run, or if there's a chance of jumping straight onto a training accreditation?

  • I'd book on the first available training accreditation (before they sell out) and then drop the team at HHV an email (hernehillbookings@gmail.com) explaining your previous experience, just to check it's okay to jump straight into a training acc. If you've ridden the track a fair amount previously it's unlikely a beginner's induction will be necessary. But best to check...

That said, if you feel like a quick refresher before going straight into an accred, then maybe hold on for an induction. Come Spring, beginner inductions will be happening every Saturday.

  • It's the first day of spring! Between now and autumn Saturdays are:
    9-10 Youth Track
    10-12 Intermediate
    12-1 Track Skills
    1-2 Induction

  • So sad to be missing out on Saturdays at HHV. Wishing I was back in London already.
