Last minute cycling in Spain

I just met a friend of a friend called James. He is an experienced cycling guide who is starting training camps in Spain and has some last minute space due to drop outs. Here's some info he sent me

    Hi Kat,

Great chatting with you earlier. Always fun to meet people that love cycling like I do! And beer :)

So it is a bit last minute at this point, but here are the details about what we have going.

So we have our upcoming promo trip from March 11-14, if you know of anyone that might be interested in coming down for a few days of training, we are offering thins first trip at a pretty deep discount, £150. This means that pretty much the only thing anyone will need to do is get there and chip in with some expenses for food. That will be cheap, it's Spain, and we are planning to provide breakfast and a lot of the ride fuel.

Essentially, the price includes accommodation for 4 days and 3 nights, the guided routes, support and some coaching, for those that are interested.

Flights are still quite affordable, and we will do our best to manage everyone's transport to and from the airport without a problem. Making everything this cheap, it may not be totally possible, but the property we have is not far from the airport, so it is not too big of a deal.

The weather is supposed to be 20-23 and sunny all of the time we are there, and I can assure you, this area is absolutely amazing for riding.

Below I will attach the brochure we put together. Disregard the prices listed, those are more for the future.

Thanks for passing along the info!!!!

    Cheers,

    Jimmy

I have the PDF pm me and I can email it to you if you are interested.

  • Spain is pretty big, maybe narrow it down a bit?

  • Best riding's to be found in the North...

    Best food's there too.

  • Andalucia

  • I'll get more details over the weekend. The guy has plenty of experience working cycle touring holidays, leading groups and providing all the technical support. This is his first effort at doing his own thing, which is why it's so cheap. He speaks good spanish too so he should be able to deal with situations as they arise.

  • Wish I could but have work commitments

  • It is very short notice but you never know, someone might be looking for an adventure for the next week.

Thanks for the inadvertent bumps Paul and James!

Actually the mutual friend of this cycle tour organiser is also friends with @mmccarthy, @Psy and Emmy Mrs @Cupcakes so forum connected! (fyi you guys this is a friend of Graham's (Sabina and Graham)) that Kat met tonight. I didn't meet him but had a decent chat with Graham who knew a lot about it. Graham himself works as a cycle tour guide and vouches for this guy's competence. Whole thing's a brand new venture though so if anyone's interested i would recommend having a proper chat with him before committing.

  • what's the deal with this then? £150 dorrar and own flights/transfers? What's the standard expected of participants-racing snake or winter slug? Are bikes provided or do you need to squire your own?

I tore my ankle ligaments in Jan so have done sweet fuck all riding but would love a sunny pedal and good food/hunners of beerz.

  • Yep own flights/transfers and provide your own bike. I think a good standard of riding is required, it's marketed as a train like a pro type thing.

His email is james@altaridecamps.com if anyone wants to get in touch with him direct.

  • I think a good standard of riding is required

That's me oot! I'm sure some whippet is in for a treat tho :)

  • If anyone's in the game for Spanish cycling tour in general, my sister and her partner run a camp near Calpe called RJ Cycling Camps.

They do guided tours and cater for all abilities, from gentle flat rides to proper mountain rides. She's an ex UK road racing team manager, and he's an ex Team GB mechanic. You can take your own bike, or they have a deal with a local shop where you can alternatively hire one.

Did I mention they do discount for forum members?

  • poo, just the sort of thing I like , but Im riding in Belgium that weekend,
