£250 raw or painted? Seems a bit steep for a fork if raw imo.
-
• #128
especially for something that he found in a dark corner
-
• #129
i assumed he means chromed? Which is about £100 on it's own tbf
-
• #130
I'm not sure actually is that is for just the raw fork or not. From his website it appears that the prices he lists includes paint. Though I imagine chrome is extra.. I've sent him an email asking about it.

I'm kind of at a point where I've spend so much already, I might as well go all out. What would you people do??
It's either Steve (expensive, exactly what I want) or Faggin (Cheaper £180 chromed, could maybe end up with a road fork..)
-
• #132
I would hope so. Yeah about 100-120 sounds fair to chrome a fork
@haveo It would probably depend on how much I got the frame for and its resale value. I know not everything is about money but you don't really wanna spend more than what its resale value is, more so if you might move it on in the near future etc.
Just make a decision while you still like it, otherwise you might loose interest.. (this is what has happened to me in the past) -

Not trying to add confusion but are those really Air fork blades? I thought those all had the aerodynamic cross section right up to the (air) fork crown. The blades in the photo end in a more standard, ellipsoid, cross section.
These look a lot like the partially flattened blades you see on some SL or SLX tubed frames.

That IS Air, see my Gios Aerodynamic build somewhere in CP.
Go with Goff, it will be built properly.
-
• #135
But this isn't a Gios, and the crown doesn't look like Air crown used on these Tommasini's. Either do it properly, or not at all.

Right before you go paying for incorrect forks have you contacted Tommasini.
They still make 700 pista Air fully panto forks and may be able to make you 650. They are VERY helpful unlike numerous other companies. The 700 pista Air are not cheap -retail thru H Bike at 280 Euro.
I would speak direct to Tommasini. They gave me a quick and informative reply regarding my Tommasini and even sent me an email Christmas card.
It makes ownership of a bike a bit more special when you get a helpful manufacturer.

Did some digging. It appears air fork blades came in more then one variation. One with the aero profile which needs a special head crown, and then one that rounds off at the top for use with regular fork crowns. Which is what I think these are.
I believe the blades he has are the ones which road off, which explains why the fork crown doesn't sweep back as much as the other air forks I've seen

The forks which came with the frame originally are one of the sets that Tommasini still makes.
The Tommasini forks that they sell are misleading. They call them 'Tommasini Air' forks however they aren't made of columbus air. They are listed as being made of Columbus Nivacrom. I can't remember if I emailed them before or not, I have a feeling I did but I can't find the emails.

Literally don't know what to do...
I'm starting to realise that Steves fork is rather expensive for something that isn't the real deal.
Maybe I just go with Faggin
-
• #140
Good one. Yeah I'm finding more Air tubed bikes with these kind of fork blades too, never knew there were two types of blades.
-
• #141
Fuck it, I'm getting them done at Faggin
-
• #142
Have you spoke with Tommasini? Seems worth sending a quick email to cover all bases/options.
-
• #143
No harm in emailing them, just sent them an email
-
• #144
Tommasini got back to me, they can't make a Columbus air fork however they can make a 650c track version of their 'air' fork
-
• #145
lol I'm completely baffled now.. Can you do a list with prices so we can compare?
-
• #146
Original manufacturer and geometri wins over your other options I'd say.
-
• #147
So the current 2 options are:
Steve Goff. Air blades, normal fork crown. £250 + chrome
Faggin. Full air fork. Comes chromed. £180
-
• #148
So you can either put on a totally unrelated and possibly not correct fork or a special one-off made by the original maker. Does this require any cerebal activity?
With the latter option the bike is 100% Tommasini which is what it should be. No matter how nicely made the other fork will be it will never be a Tommasini fork ! -
• #149
Kind of see where you are coming from. I've asked Tommasini how much but I feel it is going to cost a fortune considering they sell their standard road forks for €280
-
• #150
Send them a couple pics of the project and I think you will find they are very helpful and not avaricious .
Any extra cost will be well invested as the fork will be a 'Special One-Off' by the original maker.
