I have been trying to get back into playing guitar, A Blues deville at home is not a good choice, been after something a bit more neighbour friendly, and have been looking at VHT amps, there seems to be quite a lot of good things said about them.
I sold my BDV Saturday, and managed to get hold of this last night
A VHT Special 6, All handwired
Modded with Alnicomagnet “AA764” and "5F2A" without the line out, upgraded pots (UK)
Custom made cab by Rory Coupland(UK)
And decent Tung-Sol tubes

Looks tasty. Love the knotty pine.

Looks great, go 1x10" instead... Tighter sound...
-
• #3885
Yeah, I was thinking about a 1x10, that's what the combo uses, a lot of people seem to prefer 1x12 cabs...... There's a lot of people on the tele forum with the amp.

Depends if open or closed back, Shirley?
-
• #3887
After much deliberation I'm probably gonna go back to my original idea of a closed back 2x10" for my Solton... Think I'll get a cabinetmaker mate to build the cab then put something nice in it... So expensive otherwise and almost impossible to find used...

That's a sweet looking head Murts. Looks solid.
My mis-ordered Gator pedalboard turned up, Thomann having failed to respond to my mail about switching orders. Looks like the power supply can be mounted fairly easily using cable ties looped through the bolt holes. I'm not overly fussed about having a flat surface as opposed to rails really so no big deal there. One thing that is kind of bugging me though is that it doesn't come with a shoulder strap. Guitar in one hand, small amp in other with pedal tote slung over shoulder shirely?
Suppose this could remedied by using an electric gig bag over the shoulder but I like my hardcases and not having a strap or even anywhere to attach a strap seems stupid.
Debating sending it back. Although I'm fantastically lazy so will probably live with it for a bit them flog it.

Will you be getting pictures through the build? One piece body right - what's the wood?
-
• #3891
Yup, I will indeed... Mahogany body, curly maple neck and rosewood fretboard... I believe it is one piece, that's what he was trying to get hold of anyway...

Holy sh*t this is ridiculously cool. Can't wait to see how it comes out.

Must admit, haven't always been the biggest Hendrix fan but watching stuff like this, he really was outta this world...
^Ooooh shit, deleted.

^can't see it at work is that the newly unearthed RAH footage?
Watched a bit last week. He (and the band) are unbelievably badass. I think I convinced myself that Hendrix was overrated and overexposed after years of tedious dadrock guitmag idolization and the fact that EVERYONE cites him as thee guy. Having given him a wide berth for quite a few years it was so nice to come back and be blown away like the 13 year old me all over again. There's never been anyone like him.

Just bodged the pedal board together with cable ties and old guitar leads. Need to make up a few bespoke patch leads. I hadn't considered that with two rows of pedals with the signal path starting bottom right, you need to take the output from the bottom left up the top right for the second row. Anyway. Missus is out. Gonna finish my domestic chores then fire it up.
