  • I'm pretty sure of you read back that we're saying how badly the team has performed.

The quality had always been there, the performance and results on the other hand haven't.

Chelsea's squad consists of some very talented players. Hiddink has stabilised the team and it sounds like he treats them as adults. Mourinho, regardless if his successes, didn't seem to do this.

You don't have to like Jose's antics, I certainly didn't, but you can't deny his record as a manager. His next job will be arguably his most important one as a football manager.

  • tl;dr

  • Maybe I'll get 750:1 on Chelsea winning the league.

  • okay now into squeaky bum time, quoting the red nosed title engineer, and it's time for Master P (you can thank @shootthebreeze for that one) and the squad to dip their toes into title pressure. With Leicester dropping points at West Brom, if we win at West Ham (not a given with the way they've been playing recently, and getting players back from injury) we go top...

Fuck that's a little bit frightening...

  • Like Liverpool two years ago, this is Spurs best chance to win the title in a generation. if they blow it, they'll wait a long time for another chance.

  • Let's hope it's as far away from the PL as possible. China with any luck. The league is a far nicer place without that toxic nut job about

  • I so hope we end City's title chances tonight. I have a feeling it will finish 3-3

  • So much this.

Points at this stage of season are quite low aren't they?

  • Very...

  • Points at this stage of season are quite low aren't they?

Indeed. 16 from 28. Fuck you, Villa.

Now - how do I get to Brentford, Preston and Derby?
(won't actually be going to those places, wherever they are)

  • 1,000/1 apparently.

  • They're talking again about a mid-table breakaway by some of the Prem's most mediocre clubs - typically classy reaction to being outplayed by uppity minnows all season:

  • Larry David

    Bruce Buck

    Separated at birth?

  • They're one and the same. Larry David is his stage name. Have you every seen the two of them in the same room?

  • You could get local(ish) games v Walsall and Coventry.

On a serious note, not many people think you'll be bouncing straight back

  • Radio Bloke last night was thinking down again.

  • What the fuck are Liverpool doing on that list? We should let the others break away and perhaps then with the best 6 clubs gone, maybe, just maybe we will have a chance of winning the league.
I'd sooner cut my head off than chuck our lot in with Chelsea, United and City. Perhaps our efforts would be best spent on trying to beat them on the pitch rather than cosying up with them for some fat Americans money making scheme

  • I'm not sure I agree, I still think as a team, we've still got a ways to go in terms of maturing , and the window of opportunity for a title run still being open, obviously it depends on how the teams around us push on, can't rely on Man U, Man City, Chelsea, to a certain extent Arsenal and Liverpool, still being duffer next season, or the season's after.
But if we keep the core together (always a big if, when you can't afford mega wages), and Master P isn't whisked away by a team with deeper wage pockets, I think we've got another two or three seasons of pushing on, and challenging for the title (fingers crossed), and if he's in for the long haul (Pochettino extends his contract for another 3-4 years), probably Champions League challengers/and hopefully League challenrgers for the next decade or so.

Am I being hopelessly optimistic? Think the TV money changes a lot of things, making the field more even, and allowing teams with good managers, players who are hungry and a youth system to top them up if/when established players go looking for bigger bucks, to keep you in contention.
But, big But, you need the right manager to select and motivate the right players, which is what Pochettino is doing so far...

  • I'm not local anyway. Only non-plastic at Christmas these days. Glad I took the boys to see a final EPL game on Boxing Day.

Bouncing back will be really tough. The other 2 relegated sides will be better than us (currently) for a start. We have such a lot of shite in our squad and it's so unbalanced it's going to need investment in the summer and Lerner has shown no inclination to spend what's required. God only knows if Remi will still be here - on current form he'll leave at the end of July after no new players arrive and we've given N'zogbia another 5 year contract.
I am however slightly hopeful we'll get to see some wins which would be nice for a change. With Citeh and Spurs next I expect to take another 10 off our goal difference. Might make it to April before we're mathematically down.

  • Am I being hopelessly optimistic?
    Yes.

    I think you are.

  • If any of Bayern, PSG, Barca, Real, City, United or Chelsea come in for your better players or manager in the summer, (and they will), you'll be back in the cycle of 'rebuilding' next year and the 'bigger' clubs will be back on top form. You have to win the league now.

  • Indeed look at what happened to Liverpool. Sterling and Suarez fucked off. Gerrard was put out to grass and we have gone back now about 5 years.

  • Makes a change from going back 25 years.

  • That's 1991.
Liverpool were just about saying "next year" at this point in time.

  • we'll be right one day
