    2nd @mi7rennie with Zeyphyr

Looking forward to the new theme...

  • Awesome shot @panic happy to be hanging onto your coat tails.

Thanks again @MrDrem for helping run the comp.

  • Congrats @panic now quickly choose a new theme!

  • Hey guys, thank you all for your votes and participations
Congrats to @mi7rennie for the second place and @MrDrem hope you will help with thevoting again :)

Since some of you gave away your votes yesterday i started thinking of a new theme in case i won.
I went back and forth with this, at first i was thinking a "fill the frame" theme, then the opposite kinda like an "empty space" theme. Then my Facebook wall was filled with the Oscars so i started thinking about a cinematic theme. Which led me to my favourite director Stanley Kubrick.
Among some of his techniques in filming was the use of symmetry and one point perspective. This can of course be applied to photography so this is the theme.

So about the theme. Post a photo that shows that technique, symmetry (some say Kubrick wanted to show that we are "trapped" in symmetry, so showing something trapped in symmetry would be great), one point perspective as Kubrick used in films like the Shining, Full metal Jacket, space odyssey and A Clockwork Orange. Cinematic crop optional :)

a video showing some examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2yqw7qGrgU

a nice article about Kubricks style: https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-definitive-style-of-Stanley-Kubrick

Film grabs of Kubricks movies: http://film-grab.com/category/stanley-kubrick/

I have no idea what i'm going to shoot. Hope we all get creative with this one.

    I will name it #Kubrick

  • Excellent idea.

  • Awesome, cracking theme

  • Wow. Nice idea.

  • Fuckyeah!

  • Disappointed with the acceptance speech though. What about black ppl and global warming?

  • Good theme.

  • Whaaat?! I only got one vote - and I voted for myself...! Travesty. To be fair that will happen when you stumble across a page a little bit drunk and think you can have a go...

Well done @panic a deserved win.

  • Awesome theme. Gutted I can't use these, but thought I'd repost some shots from a few weeks ago for some more group inspiration.

  • You've got your eye in at least! Love these shots and really liking the theme for this week.

  • I thought of those photos immediately. Probably would have won as well!

  • This gonna be fun. Been doing loads of One point perspective drawing lately, hopefully will help.
    Looking forward to everyones entries.

@mi7rennie didn't you post some great film shots the other day? If i recall one of them would have been perfect. here:

  • Just to point out that the one point perspective in not the only thing that should be depicted.
I was going more for symmetry in regards to confinement, giving you a feeling of uneasiness(?) kind of.. i can describe this in greek :)

    so yeah. confined/constrained in symmetry

but one can interpret the theme anyway he/she likes and the rest can decide which one they like.

  • ^ good to point out. Although it's a lot harder to think about conceptually or in a abstract manner. will be interesting to see peoples interpretation.

  • ...searches ebay for anamorphic lenses...

    Nope.

  • :) or a three shot pano

  • haha, yeah... I'm going to stick to a single frame. Ever the pedant.
Will play around with the 2.35:1 ratio though.

Someone should do an entry with Cinestill...

  • I made a panoramic camera a couple of weeks ago and I have a few rolls of cinestill...

Actually I love this theme but I probably won't have time again, looking forward to everyone's entries tho

  • Such a good theme this week!

  • Actually I love this theme but I probably won't have time again, looking forward to everyone's entries tho

It seems that a lot of people don't have the time. i don't know if we can change the format a bit in the future, maybe a 10 day period for shooting and a day of voting. because know we have about 6 days to shoot only.

  • ^I agree with that.

Been struggling to find the time myself.
