The eye is about equivalent to 48mm I thought. I often shoot with both eyes open on my 50mm for street shots, to see what's going to enter the frame.
Edit: apparently I've made that completely up, but the 50mm thing still works for me. Though I'm talking about my m3 which has 50mm frame lines and is actually slightly wider so maybe more like 45mm -

43 on a full frame camera.
... but it's complicated.
And viewfinder magnification is a thing.

I have added loads of more fun and cheap cameras. £10 each posted!

My eyes can't handle both eyes open, it's really annoying. Although maybe I'm focussing too much on composition and should let my brain do what it feels best. My grandfather once taught me to keep my horizons level and it's been hellish to get rid of that tendency, he did me no favours with such a bad tip!
@miro_o Ah right, that makes sense. But yes, very complicated. One for the lens grinder to worry about tbh

1st test roll back shot on the Ihagee Exa.
This was done estimating the shutter time and using a cable release in the twilight, really happy with it. Shot on Poundland Vista.

How's the waist level finder? East to use?

It's actually pretty fun, just need to look up more often to get over the inverted left to right movement thing. Thanks @Well_is_it!

OM4, 50mm 1.4, Portra 800. Also got a roll of Ektar and portra 160 back and they're both totally all over the place. literally no idea what's happened. I know one roll had the first 10 frames shot 2 stops over due to a silly mistake. Bah!
I like the 800 though!
Edit - I tell a lie, those shots are Fuji superia xtra 400!

3rd shot is great. So annoying when you get stuff back from the lab and it's useless.

Don't you just love it when you go out in the freezing cold specifically for the weekly comp and spend a tenner in abject snappy snaps only to discover your shutter is failing.

Good sleuthing!

Nice one. Just cements how awesome that old shot is though.

Both of these actually show the Cesta/De la Fratta tower, not the Guaita, but still good sleuthing:

@marlandro I always hoped somebody would help solve the mystery, brilliant thanks! Amazing how overgrown it is.
Picked up a couple more old photos this Thursday from Spitalfields although they're not really as good classically speaking.
Just arrived in Reykjavik this evening so really looking forward to using the 35 & 120 usual suspects this week - stay tuned.

hi all,
Can't believe I've only just found this thread!
I've been messing around with a couple of film cameras trying to self educate myself in the art of photography. I started using an olympus MJU 115, and moved on to a Pentax Asahi to try and get the feel for a fully manual camera, really enjoying learning about apertures and shutter speeds and when to use which variations.
I've also recently been given a canon EOS 300 body and so need to get some lenses for it however I'm clueless as to what lens fits what body so any advice as to what lenses I should be looking as well as recommendations for good places to find them is much appreciated.

Any EF Canon lens will fit the EOS 300. There's a bunch to choose from but they've updated their 50mm 1.8 recently and the 40mm is excellent and tiny. Even those giant white lenses you see on the sidelines of football matches will fit.

much appreciated, ill look into those, the 40mm sounds good as I'm planning on taking it to to australia with me, so smaller the better. presumable the inter web is the best place to pick one up?

Hi,
..what Well_is_it said, look for "EF" lenses (not EF-S, they are only for crop-sensor digital cameras).
After that it really depends on what (focal length) you want, and what you're willing to spend.
I'm also a big fan of the 40mm EF STM, you can get this for about £80 on eBay, it's fantastic.
The 50mm's are all good value for money as well, find used ones or just get the new STM.If you don't want / need auto-focus there's a lot great lenses for your Pentax that can be had for really cheap as well..

The only potential issue with the 40mm is that its max aperture is only f/2.8, which isn't a problem on a modern DSLR but if you're shooting low light with film, it could be a bit restricting.
The 50mm lets in a bunch more photons and will make low-light situations easier to deal with.
My polaroid 680 SLR came today, gonna play with it later. Results to come
