  • I had the Sigma DP1 and later DP2 (second hand), they were excellent camera and phenomenal in getting the shot.

The majority of time however is wasted on it's shitty user interface and their own RAW software*

*admittedly I got great result from their own software, but it's not Lightroom.

  • Oh look, a cat photo.

  • Dixons have it for £796, and I have a £100 Dixons voucher from Amex as a points reward, so £696.

  • Good light yesterday, taken on my phone:

  • So I sold my X20... looking for a replacement, that should be more portable i.e. fit in a jersey pocket

    Alternatives to Ricoh GR please?

  • Doesn't really fit in a jersey pocket though..

  • Maybe without a lens... Who needs that anyway...

  • Now that there is a whole photography sub-forum maybe someone could start a What Digital Camera thread? I would do it but my doctor says I need to rest.

  • Good shout. And a cameras for sale type thing.

Would be good to get some pinned to the top (the kinda yellow looking threads)

  • Alternatives to Ricoh GR please?

Even the GR stretches the definition of pocketable.

You could look at the Nikon 1 J5, Coolpix A (there are some discounts around) or the new DL 18-50. I've used the Coolpix A and it's very similar to the GR.

They are all a of a dated concept now that phones are so good. Unless you want RAW, the hotshoe, or the res for printing they're hard to justify based on portability.

  • Handling is completely different. I can't take an unblurred photo jabbing at my phone screen. With the Ricoh GR (which is basically my pocket/jersey 'maybe I'll see something'camera) I have it set up so I can basically snap a sharp photo and move on within 30s without having to piss around with fiddly touch screen nonsense. The Ricoh is particularly well thought through for exactly that kind of photography, mind.

  • I can't take an unblurred photo jabbing at my phone screen.

Fair enough but this experience is not typical.

  • Judging by how blurry a lot of other people's phone pictures I've seen are, I'd disagree.

  • They are all a of a dated concept now that phones are so good.

Phones do have improved a lot, and for some kinds of pictures they're indeed very good.

They in no way replace cameras like a GR or Coolpix A though, for a lot of reasons.

  • Usually because it doesn't have the capabilities to go a high ISO and a faster lens for the scenario, oh and a larger sensor to allow more light in.

  • Yes, obviously. And the ergonomics are very different.

  • Get the rx1r - small, viewfinder, big sensor, perfect really......

  • Birthday treats

  • O HAI!

Looking forward to seeing some shots from that.

  • Popped it on this morning it's bright as fuck, pretty stoked!

  • Happy birthday BTW...
