Definitely not. There's no audible difference between mains cable, cat5 ethernet or posh directional speaker cables. The audio cable industry is pure snake oil.

My headphone cables are made of steel ffs, so plain old copper is just the ticket.

What about terminating the cables? Any appreciable difference between banana plugs with screws or ones you have to solder? Assuming a non-wobbly, solid connection on both?

A secure connection is really the important part but something would have to be seriously broken or mis-handled to not work. Amp/speaker binding posts are fine so screw-on banana plugs should be fine too.
