My wife has a battered gold coloured seiko kinetic thing (her dad got it off eBay and she requisitioned it)
Had it a good few years and it was a good few old when she got it.
Doesn't seem to want to hold a Charge so guessing the battery/ capacitor is shotAre these easy to replace yourself? (hamfisted muggle)
Or should I go somewhere independent and reputable to get it switched out? -

Definitely have a go with a butter knife and pliers first. Not your watch, nothing to lose.

Thanks for the heads up. Had a chat and my watch will go off at the end of the week. He seemed very personable, excitable and very helpful. Good customer service already.

Where can I go to get a cheap but sentimental wind up watch repaired? I recall over winding it as a kid and losing the crown wheel as a teenager.

In London?

Yep, or happy to post. I expect most shops will say it's not worth repairing but if I can get it working for sub £100 I'd like to wear it on my wedding day.

You can request a quote from Russell Talerman. I had my watch fixed by him. It works, gains 30s a day which is just about OK for a 50 odd year old watch. Dropped and collected in person as it's too precious for me to post.

Either Alsal or the little yellow shop on Clerkenwell Road

I think I may ask a similar question every year or so but;
What is the cost of a Rolex bracelet that will fit a late 60's GMT Master. One like this
but new.
What are good after market (not fake) alternatives.

Seiko Kinetic capacitor replacement.
These are very easy and cheap to do, and the replacement will be superior to the original thanks to improvements in technology. Google and eBay will get you all the info and parts you need.

Morning kids.
Here's a dilemma. My folks are looking to pick me up a nice watch for my 40th bday but they've only got limited cash to spend. They've said up to £300 but I really don't want to go that high.
Now I like those old beat-up automatic dress/dive watches, and I can see a load of old Seamasters / Cosmics / Junghans on ebay for around the right money.
Trouble is my folks don't really do ebay and I'd be worried they might bid on something that's non original or quartz or what have you.
So I'm thinking, are there any trustworthy shops around London or Essex which deal with the more beat-up end of prestige watches and don't cost the earth?
EDIT: or do any of YOU fine folks have something for sale that fits the (Max) bill?
