  • I've used the plug/co2 canister system a couple of times to mend punctures with lot of success, long lasting repairs too. I think I had a pack that was recommended by BMW.

  • Cheers.

How do I know if my tyres are tubeless? It's 2010 bike. I thought all bikes, like cars, had tubeless.

  • Unless it's a properly retro model, yes they'll be tubeless. What is it you're riding?

  • If it has spokes, split rims or other ways for the air to escape it will have inner tubes.

  • I wouldn't bother with puncture repair kit or jump leads. Bikes can be bump started and you can ride on a flat tyre enough to get to a tyre place. Or call the RAC

  • I've had 2 proper problems in thousands of miles in London, only after the latest accident when I was taken to hospital has the bike been stranded. Battery problems usually materialise when you're at home so you have to charge it indoors and pop it back on or push start it. Punctures, you can still make it to the nearest tyre place. I have a big toolkit at home but almost never needed it around town, if you have a problem you just ride slower or push it to the nearest fix.

Good idea to be prepared though, my riding patterns might be different to yours.

  • Yeah - depends on the bike, fuel injection rather fucks with bump starting. I could bump my TL1000s with a low battery by bumping it and hitting the starter at the same time. Later generation EFI not so accommodating.

Don't know if they're as good as they used to be (mine are 10 now) but Halford's professional were fucking great tools...wait for one of their sales and scoop up a big set.

It's got spoked wheels, so maybe there are tubes.

    All good points people.

I still think I'm going to try and find some jump leads just in case as I clearly don't have the bump start technic down.

  • IMO carrying jump leads is bonkers. Just learn to bump start.

  • You're probably right. I've done it a few times. Although my thinking was more if I got stuck at work again where a bump start isn't feasible and there are a million other bikes parked.

So basically we're saying don't bother with anything.

  • I tend to carry any and every tool I might need for anything up to a major service - admittedly for 60 year old mopeds - the only thing I've actually used out on the road has been a plug spanner (plug whiskers - an issue with small old 2 strokes) and even then it's only once every three or four years when I get caught out. I would have thought that most tools are for servicing - something to be done at home - but if you must carry tools I'd add a plug spanner, adjustable spanner, and tire levers to your list - they can be carried in the space your jump leads might otherwise occupy.

tl;dr correct - don't bother with anything else if you've got a phone.

  • Why is it unfeasible?

    Bike looks pretty light.

  • My KTM has a pretty good factory tool kit.
Most of it is spanners for the suspension. Then torx bit and Allen keys. Pliers.
Useful for just adjusting bits like screen and stuff.

  • Looks good, spoked wheels are nice. Unless the fuel injection won't allow it you should be able to bump that up an incline!

  • Unless the fuel injection won't allow it...

Is that a thing? I'm sure I've bumped fuel injected bikes. Infact, I definitely have, a Sporty and my XT660.

  • Some do, if there's enough battery power to prime the fuel lines. Others go totally haywire. Very hit and miss. It's not just the pump pressure and FI either, some ignitions just won't work beneath a certain V.

Sweet looking bike by the way Hugo. Bet that's nippy in town.

  • I carry a puncture kit too, used in anger twice. Screw in tyre on the way to work, limped the bike there and fixed in my lunch break. Do remember to get a proper plug repair at a later date though.

  • Cheers for the bike comments. Unfortunately that's someone else's photo and mine looks a little more bruised on the driveside after it being knocked over a while back.

I do really like it. It's got pretty rapid acceleration, good round town position, light and doesn't look too much like a 'small' bike. Plus when I was a kid my mates that had 50cc all had Derbys as that was apparently the fastest 50cc you could get - especially when there were bored out.

The downsides are, it feels light if your on a big duel carriage way, tops out at about 60-65mph, and is an arse to get parts for here as it's Spanish / Italian (the Piagio compatible parts are easier).

    But overall it's a great 125cc.

  • Pulled the top end on Big Red yesterday for a routine piston. Reeds looked good, bore and piston both still in good shape, so will just be a clean up and put a new stock wiseco in there. Came apart relatively easy despite having been worked on by a gorilla at some point. One stud came loose, annoying the one landlocked by the cylinder casting - solved with judicious application of Kroyl. Cylinder a bit stuck on the rear stud and dowel, solved with liberal use of rubber mallet and heatgun.

New bits ordered and should all be back together to test next weekend. (And destroy what little remains of the back tire....) I really need new rubber. Fecking dirt bikes chew through them at an alarming rate - didn't know that.

  • I left my XTZ660 at the back of my garage four years ago and haven't been inclined to get it back on the road. I have, however, just been offered a mint Ducati SS800 for £2500 and feel the urge to buy. Anyone have any knowledge good or bad on this model? Not this one but identical and stock.

  • Speak to @VanUden he has similar but in red...

  • Phwoar! Angry. Check out the red hot pipes...they had to make them in Inconel apparently. Crighton now has made an even angrier version - claimed 200bhp and under 300lbs. Rotary engines are (the) nuts.
