That will require a lot of sanding.... better get the flat file out. I wouldn't bother to be honest, that's way too much material to remove. A seatpost that only touches the inside of the seattube at certain points will direct force to those spots causing (a higher than normal) stress on the material. Could lead to cracks.
Yeah that is probably what I'll do, for now anyway. Here's a pic comparing the air and shimano posts. Air is on the left
