  • You are a wealth of bloody knowledge, thanks for the reply!
I'll avoid the Pro Jects then... will think on the NAD... and get Googling too.
    Thanks again.

  • I'm just old :) Google Hypex amps, they are the leading class d amp manufacturer and sell kits, expensive kits.

  • Just realised the 3020d has no phono input. I have an NAD PP2, they are pretty good phono amps.

  • Why can't hifi manufacturers just get it right? How hard is it to design something that looks good and sounds good? Why are NAD using plastic buttons?!
I want to go back to 1960.
    Actually I was never there.

  • @brm I has no Q acoustics.

    You LIE!

  • i fort you did

  • i haz dem

  • That looks the business.

  • PS Audio Sprout? Good-looking, is tiny, has pre-amp I think.

In fact, I'm thinking about one for myself, if you'd care to be my guinea pig?

  • @chrisbmx116
    This TEAC is interesting:

    http://www.teac.com/product/ai-501da/

    Still need phono pre-amp though

  • Yeah quite like the look of that, why is the type face on it so ugly though? Hmmm... my budget started at half that, but, erm, it is kinda nice...
I'm going to go have a word with mesen and leave everyone in peace now.
    Thanks for all the suggestions.

edit: it would match my 1203 wouldn't it? Oh oh....

  • If you hunt about a bit it's available for £450 or thereabouts I think. Bit tricky to judge that wooden panel on the top without seeing it in the flesh though, could be great, could look a bit like laminate flooring...

  • if you're tempted by retro looks, how about the real thing:

Very undervalued (once cost the same as a Naim NAIT), fast and punchy sound, excellent phono stage, shallow case (needs a little room for the heatsink), and would look sweet next your Beogram.

  • Holy shit. Well into that. Going to do a Google. CHeeeers!

  • Deeper shelf bro.

  • It's built in! Such a buzz kill... this is becoming so much harder than expected.
That Cambridge a60 amp has stupid Din connectors and no Phono (?), another option bites the dust....

  • ah - there you go

    see you later, btw

  • A 90 degree side entry IEC mains cable saves on shelf depth if size is critical. Like this,

  • Just a thought. How hard would it be to add a 2 or 3 inch lip to the shelf in question? A strip of wood and a bracing strip would possibly give you enough room with very little visual impact?
Could be enough to get a "normal" amp on there

  • That A&R A60 has a phono stage - it's the one labelled disc (mag.pu on early ones). I have a later one that also has RCA connections for a turntable, and the DIN thing for any other sources is no biggie.

  • radical thought procedure, i know, but what about a bigger fucking shelf?

    :)

  • Or, seeing as it's built-in, just chisel an amp shape in to the wall.

  • Built in shelf folks, let me dig out another pic to illustrate.
Here ya go, in the bg, built in, and its really cramped behind the amp atm (and the record player is actually a bit too big to sit on top so my current amp is actually a bit small)
Cheers for the info @Levantis ! Have found one for £150 in real good condition, sound about right?
