the D3 is ideal weight
... if you need ballast to balance a 2-500mm lens :-P

Ha, I've been having that same discussion with myself over the last 6 months. Bought an a6000 last week. Will let you know how it goes!
Oh, and as it's the pics thread- I took it for a walk yesterday.

I fully agree, I just can't justify buying a D4 or D4s when you can buy a D750 for £1250 and its nearly just as good in everything except FPS which I don't need any longer anyway...
But downgrading on the body is the worst part.

I do use a 70-200 frequently ;)

Get a normal body, a D810 or 5DSR, and add a battery grip. Works really well.

Yeah man, like that a lot. Ghost pigeons are great, they leave a lot less mess.

^ Never understood the appeal of those dogs. They look like a slightly melted wax model.

Would anyone be able to recommend a lens for starting with action shots? I'm using a Canon 650d and would like to start taking pics at Crits, track events etc etc, and would like to invest in something that's easy on the wallet. Any suggestions, or even tips on what to look for?

If you'd be happy with a prime the Canon 50mm 1.8 is cheap and apparently very good. It'll allow you to use much faster shutter speeds wide open (not to mention much bokeh), and paired with the crop sensor on your 650d, will give you a 75mm equivalent length which will be good if you're a little further from the action.

Did you get a kit zoom lens?
Free, and probably the best option.

Really like 1-3 and 4...

..as thross and miro already said - kit zoom or the 50/1.8 are cheap and good.
As is the 40mm STM pancake or basically all of the new STM zoom lenses.. -
