I believe my riding had nothing to do with how this situation ended.
It's entirely possible to ride in a manner to prevent this situation from happening again.
Instead of shouting twice, just squeeze the brake and slow down, peds still have priority over you once they're on the road.

It's a grim story, and reading between the lines it looks like she is in a medically induced coma and if the new user who posted is to be believed things are not good.
