  • I'm looking to get a camera mainly for documenting artwork (paintings and small sculptures) It will be documenting for use on-line and in applications etc, not for print purposes. If I needed documentation for catalogues etc. I can get it done professionally.

So far I've been borrowing one of my friends Sigma DP2 Merrill which has been great, quality probably a bit better than I need, but it's the benchmark I've been working off so far.

I'm probably looking at getting an advanced compact or low end DSLR. The dslr will probably be more versatile in the long run but is cheap one going to be much better than a good compact?

Also, any pointers to good websites or shops for buying cameras would be great. Also, are used worth looking at or would you steer clear?

  • I'd buy a new D3200 for £180 on ebay and the Nikon 40mm AF-S DX Micro.

    I do similar things (smaller, printed-things) with a Nikkor 60mm AF-D Micro.
