That means getting up 3 hours earlier on the weekends :(
-
• #12554
Mind blown! That would work but only if I can get up and eat without waking my son. Which is not as simple as you might think.
-
• #12555
Take the food to bed with you, DURR!!

Try and change pace, stride etc. Sometimes that works and you can run it off, sometimes it dosent. I try and push it until I cant physically run from the pain to find out, then the only options are rest up or swim.

Talking to the 150+ mile a week runners, they seem to avoid injury via a good diet and quality sleep.

rehab/prehab work, weight, stretching etc. basically general stuff that helps you move better.

• #12559
sports massage is great as a kickstart to improving stretching pre/rehab - or just regularly if you are constantly in a state...
thinking about new shoes at the moment, I love my inov8 road x 255s fit and asics gel noosa fasts combo of lightweight and have just cracked open my last pair of box fresh 255s but like to plan ahead, any suggestions from the hive mind?
im slightly tempted by a pair fo hoka one one Cliftons - just to see what they are like, but the adidas boosts also appeal, or perhaps I should just evolve into the road xtreme 250s...

As a general shoe?
You use Noosa, so if you want a really low weight/height racer, you'll love the Gel Hyperspeed. Very quick, light and well-cheap.

This was posted in the Vegan thread but worth a repost: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06tq3tk

There's a good quote in there that cuts through all the diet bullshit: "Eat real food. Mostly vegetables. Not too much"
-
• #12563
A lot of what he says is otherwise just diet bullshit of the stinkiest order though.

^^^ Thanks will have a listen. Opposite problem to many, I can eat all day but currently weigh just 63kg and dropping at 6ft2.
This is of concern when thinking about the next 6 months plan.
In other news a colleague of mine who has done plenty of Long Distance TT & Ultra Marathon stuff for many years brought these two books & a postitnote in for me to read / research.

63kg and 6ft2? You're running with the Kenyans already.
-
• #12566
Yeah I should have added a caveat that I mostly talk bollocks.

noosa fast...
i think its the predecessor to the hyperspeed, and i like it, its just made of cheese...

Only if you add an hour to the Marathon WR.

Weekends xc is now likely to be like a double parkrun as the ground is so wet the course has been heavily modified, could be completely flat. Could be a no spikes race for sure.

Another encouraging bit of progress in achilles recovery this evening. 12 miles total, 5 miles continuous tempo on the track @ 5:40/m, hard but manageable, and absolutely no complaints from the heel at all. Did get overtaken by @juanito at one point, but this time he was getting more rests than me. ;)

@Sainsburys_Ed ooh Hoka. Trainer/ running thread crossover . But are they as good as the hype. Leave that with you.
Will be gutted if the Kenyans start testing positive. .... as many of you readers will too after the Finn book, cracking read.
Good lively thread lads, and @hatapota -

Back in the game! if the game is slowly running on flat tarmac for 30 mins and possible hour on the treadmill. Physio says I'm good to run after a niggle in the junction between the calf and tendons.
Not allowed to squat/dead lift in the gym (boohoo, less early mornings). Have to do all the stretching.

Oh to have that problem...
I'd be interested in what you think of 80/20. Not read that yet but the Kenyans is good. Looking to get his new one 'The Way of the Runner' soon. -

Good nutrition strategy for winning this race yeah?
