  • Tapping people up enough for charity stuff this year after years of not doing that at all.

  • First time in the ballot. Been fearing today and came home to a congratulations letter. Can't work out if I'm pleased or not

  • Yay! A congratulations letter! Can't wait!

  • 3rd time lucky after omitting any mention of my cycle club and British Cycling membership from the application. This may have been a coincidence.

  • 3rd time, and I've made it through too. Kind of quite pleased.

I mentioned both, got in again.

What time did you say you'd do?

  • In! Good to be back for this ride! Let's see if I can improve on my 5:20 3 years ago! =/

  • I signed up while holding my left index finger to my nose. Didn't get a place. Good news for St Giles Trust, bad news for George.

  • Genuinely can't remember.

  • Second time and OUT!

Charity place for me it is then!

  • Didn't get in, was pleased, and then the guy I rode with two years ago reminded me how brilliant it was cycling out through London - Stratford, Limehouse, along embankment, etc.

  • Unlucky for the third time in a row!

  • Got a place, happy day! Better start training this weekend...

  • The Mrs has an entry for RL so I was probably going to come down for it with her, just wondering how possible it was to just hop on the course a couple of miles up the road.

I'm guessing they're probably quite vigilant regarding 'intruders' with it being a closed road thing.

  • Still waiting....bloody postmen.

  • ...wrong thread...

  • They have compressed air net cannons to take you out.

There are plenty of places to 'intrude', pedestrian crossings etc, I didn't see that they were particularly vigilant at the end camp either, too many cyclists.

  • Although I wouldn't encourage it, there is plenty of opportunity to join in, although you should plan it in advance as trying to meet up on the route can be tricky.

I would suggest waiting on the A12, just after the start. Riders are sent up both slip roads alternately, but there are plenty of people that stop and wait there for friends who are starting a bit later so you can prob get lost in the commotion.

  • Yeah, sounds like it'll probably be a faff and I can't be arsed with getting bollocked by security. Excellent Bikeradar thread with guys saying they're going to grass on people without numbers or push them off their bikes. Will just see if there are any London club runs I can jump on instead.

  • I've jumped in on bits of the Etape up here on a fixed and without a helmet. It's fine. Anyone that says otherwise is a cunt.

  • Got lucky this year, but what after what I saw last year i might skip it.

  • Commiserate my arse, you Bollocks. Didn't want to ride your stupid fat middle-aged dentistbanker ride anyway.

  • My student Emily from Wareham Dorzet got a place. Just thought you should know

  • My girlfriend got in. I didn't. Hmm.

  • Yay, I got a place. I can ride as wingman for my club's 4 man team.
