  • I'm 6ft 1 and am just in the process of swapping my L for an XL

L was just a tad too short (although by no means unrideable), and toe overlap was a problem. I did ride the L happily for a year until I found an XL frame at a good price.

  • I'm also 6ft 1 with about 87 cm inseam. My size L Pompino may look a little too small for me but its so fun to ride.

  • Pompino Owners ... quick question:

    I'm after a Pompino v2 or 3 (wishbone) in L. Frame, frame+forks or complete ...

    Anyone, anywhere, anyhow?

  • I've got a v1 in L, frame & forks, in original blue. I need to strip the last parts then give it a clean before sticking it in the classifieds. Let me know if interested.

  • Hi pomp owners,I'm currently building my first pomp, and as its my first single speed build, I don't know what I need to do bout getting the right chainset so the chain line is ok. I fancy the Sram Rival 1 chainset. Any ideas if that will be ok? Thanks.

  • When I built mine I used loads of stuff I had lying around including bb and cranks. After measuring the chainline I found it out by a few mm. I managed to sort this with a new bb with a longer axle length.

  • I confess I've never once measured a chainline on any bike, but seem to have got away with it somehow.

On my pomp I have the widely derided Miche Primato cranks and their matching bb.

  • I fancy the Sram Rival 1 chainset. Any ideas if that will be ok?

SRAM technical documents will tell you the chain line for that (43.7mm to the inside face of the chainring teeth, so about 44.8 chainline), you just have to find a hub and sprocket/freewheel to match.

The Shimano FC-S501 works on Pomps and has a 42.7mm chainline which is easier to match with normal track hubs. It also comes with a handy chainguard, 3 choices of ring size, two colour choices and an unbeatable price

  • Thanks very much for the advice. Will get one of those ordered, I think.

    Thanks again!

  • as we are talking about cranks
what kind of bb should I put on my XL pomp?
    running campa record pista 165

  • Campg record pista!! It's designed for the same chainline and there'll be no comparability issues.

  • there'll be no comparability issues

  • A longer top tube will allow you to use more stem and bar options.

  • Have any V4 owners ran, or fit a 40c WTB Nano in the rear?

On the fence about replacing my Cross Check with one, but I am trying to figure out max practical tire clearance.

  • 40C slicks are a (too) tight fit, Nano doesn't look like it has any knobs poking out of the sides but you'd have at best zero mud clearance and at worst a tyre casing rubbing on the chainstay, depending on how big they come up on your rims compared with a true 40mm.

Realistically, you don't want to go over 35C on a pomp if you intend to get dirty.

  • Thanks so much.

Also found out in my research last night that the fork is shorter than standard cross forks. I have a Ritchey that I was hoping to use.

Looks like I may need to do more searching.

  • I have a 42c smart sam in my v4; fits fine. If you want a straight blade fork that doesn't need to be carbon, get one from orlowski.

  • It begins ... build coming soon !

    Off to Armourtex tomorrow.

  • really nice rear fork on this previous version of the Pomp

  • Do you know how heavy is the frame of a pomp'?

  • around 2,2kg for the frame

  • Thanks mate

  • Large size (frame only), both V3 and V4 i have weighed to 2,35kg

  • Will weigh in the morning, though from handling it - it's not light ... Not hefty ...

  • So ... science!

Il Pompino 2005 (120mm) in L (with hset cups)
    = 2.242kg
