Hello functional thread! I'm after a new do it all geared bike - all weather commuter and touring friendly.
My commute is going to be changing from 10 miles to 30miles a day so need something nippy but kinda relaxed riding position. Needs to be able to accommodate sturdy tyres and mudguards and eyelets. WSD would be good but not a deal breaker.
I have a tendency to love every bike I see/try so some clarity would be appreciated! Current contenders include a Soma Buena Vista, B Twin Triban 540, Brother Kepplar build or a Bobbin Bike Albion...
Looking to spend max £1000.

Ooh. Good call....will add to the list!

Genesis CdF? Generous clearances for tires and mudguards, not overly aggressive geo, disc brakes, etc.

I would go cross check or straggler for that budget. 2x10, decent handbuilt wheels, SKS mudguards. I'm biased because that's pretty much exactly my own cross check build, but it has served me well.

If you're happy with long reach, Surly will be fine.
Otherwise Genesis.

Genesis Equilibrium would be worth a look if you want something a bit more road / fun.

Amaze.
Really not sure about that mini pump placement on the second one though. I think the seat stay would be better. I can imagine you'd knock the mudguards.
Also it looks like the small Lezyne pressure drive, I have thought the slighty longer would be more sensible.

The top one's a beauty! I really like those painted, hammered mudguards.

Another vote for the CrossCheck/Straggler recommendation. I've been really pleased with my Straggler and bothwell <3 s her CrossCheck.

What size are you looking for?

Ma cross check is ye olde reliable.
Get a Straggles tho. Discs, innit.

I'd switch the tire/rim combos on those two up there, not enough colour contrast.

More for the composition than anything, but looks like they're doing it right.

I know so many guys riding carbon road bikes that this sort of thing would be so much better for.

wut?
It looks like it is an American build. So, if it is mainly used as a commuter/fire road gravel bike I guess mudguards makes sense. Wet sand/gravel doesn't clog up like Epping winter mud. Mudguards could be longer though...
