  • Yeah, I use compression calf guards but they're for venous return not aero. If I can do both - winning!

  • Are you using the best helmet for you?

I really like my TriRig brake. I find it really easy to to dial in, and plenty powerful enough. Thats doing descents on carbon rims.

Although. New bike is always the answer. Regardless of the question.

  • I haven't tested all helmets but I've tested a variety and I'm happy with it. I'd still like to get hold of the S-Works McLaren lid but that's about it.

I was riding the Shiv on the LEJOG route - emergency stops in the wet with carbon rims were a joke. That's why I upgraded to hydro. They're definitely better but carbon braking is still shit no matter what Zipp or anyone else tries to claim.

I'm already in the market for a new bike but it's a TransAm bike. Proper TTing is probably taking a bit of a back seat this year - though that's why I'm trying to buy speed :)

  • Looks like you have the cheap watts covered then.

I was going to get some velotoze for road racing this year. Aside from anything else they'll look after my pricey shoes and keep my feet dry. I usually have oversocks on 99% of the time anyway. Tempted to try and fit both on for the spring stuff.

Loads of the pros appear to be using ceramic speed derailieur pullys this year (well I noticed first this year). Must be the most expensive watts you can get.

  • Overshoes - I flip between using them and not using them. Mine are very tight and contribute to painful crushed feet. Since my feet already go numb because of the blood flow issue I sometimes don't bother with overshoes. For 10s I'll use them but 25s and 50s I don't but then 100s I don't get the numbness and run the shoes backed off a bit anyway so I use them, same as 12s but then in 24s the crushing gets too much later in the race and I've had to stop to take them off - so I don't start with them on now.

Who would've thought using overshoes was so complicated...

I've got a browser window open on a 500EU derailler pulley replacement. 500EU to save 1-2W is fucking crazy in my mind. So, obviously I'm getting them for all my bikes..

There's also the option of a Berner cage or an Irish company that does much cheaper copies of the idea that would get most of the benefit for 1/5th the cost.

  • I'm checking to see if it possible to retrofit the Magura RT8 levers to a disc calipers.

  • Speedplay Aero pedals for me new P5. Yes or no. Wallet says ouch, heart says yes, head says 'Fuck me, after the tax bill it's peanuts but whatever'. Bollocks have the casting vote, so they're asking for backup.

I don't have any Speedplays (I use SPD/SPD-SL/Keo for MTB/road/track) and I've never used them before but I've got some DMT Pistas I could use as my dedicated P5-TTing-Speedplay shoes.

  • Speedplay are lovely, just required a fair amount of maintenance, take shoes off immediately after getting off the bike.

Should be O.K. if solely for TTing.

  • Why?

It should be doable but I wonder if the master cylinder in the levers is big enough to get enough movement on the disc.

  • How much are they? Can you just buy the aero cleats?

Ah, you don't have SP at the moment. So how much is the whole shebang?

I only use Speedplay because fitting 3-bolt shit midfoot and clipping in is a ballache.

  • How much is 2w worth to you?

@hippy I understand the gains from just the aero cleats will be non-existent.

  • Was thinking that.

    Mainly for the RAAM.

  • As always, mostly bullshit.

Walked loads in my Speedplay cleats last year, still on the originals.

  • Then you're lucky.

  • I'm not giving them any more money.

  • Using a discount code from Sigma, 160 squid for pedals, cleats and cleat covers. That's for the steel axle option - I'm a bit borderline on weight for the ti option. The bike will need pedals regardless so it's the difference between these and either Ultegra or DuraAce SPD-SLs which I'm mulling over.

  • Given that you need some pedals anyway, that's not CRAZY money but it is another pedal system you have to fart about with, have spares for, forget your shoes for, etc.

  • Sounds like a 2W saving for 90 quid. Marginal, but 2W is 2W and marginal gains is gainz. I'll see if the bollocks get more decisive after a bottle of wine this evening...

  • I was going to get the aero cleats because A) they look Nice, and B) they include the walkable bit.

I redrilled my Bonts for 4 hole, as I didnt like the idea of an adaptor. So a Nice flush sitting set of aero cleats would be Nice.

I drilled my Bonts as far back as I dared. I need the sole to be thick enough, and the inserts to sit correctly. Puts the pedal axle just behind the ball of my foot. Seems to be enough to off load my calfs/achilles.

  • Just thought - I'm actually up to 4 different pedal systems already - SPD for MTBing, SPD-SL for road, Look Keo for track and Campag clipless for my as-yet-unridden-by-me Colnago. Adding a 5th I can live with.

And yes, you may call me Imelda. All the luvverly shoooooooes...

  • I have my old mtb shoes still which are ATACs, my old road shoes are SPD-SL and all my new shoes are Speedplay/midfoot. Probably some SPDs kicking about in Oz too. But I don't use any of the old ones - I can barely remember to take shoes as it is so taking the wrong pair to a race is more problematic than worrying about 2W.

If you do get them defo fuck the Campag and Keos off spits

  • I see NoPinz have a new suit out: http://www.nopinz.com/product/bioracer-speedmaster-tt/

    Should I buy another skinsuit?

Any idea of possible gainz over their SpeedConcept TT suit that I currently use?

    burns wallet

  • I have crank bros on everything except the road bike.

Quattros on the fixed gear for use With road shoes, and the rest use MTB pedals.

Used my road shoes on the fatbike the other day. It turns out you cant Clip out of mallets With Quattro cleats on. Absolutely locked in.

Anyway. My Keywin pedals are lighter, lower, and offer the same free float as speedplay. But the adjustability of the speedplay mean I can run minimal Q without fear of heel - crank strike. So they win.

  • Faster than the Nopinz Xav-suit?

  • Tripsuit is worth 6-8w over an original NoPinz suit.

I should be netting almost 15w from skinsuit changes this season. Now that I'm on an actual aero frame, am I even going to have to pedal?
