  • haha, I did ride an advanced so it might be that, might also be the geometry? like ed said, the defy is very "sportive"; when I rode one it was set up with the saddle far forward and longish reach

  • I plann on doing alot of sportives this year, already have 3 on my list for this year. But im 25 and dont plan on riding like a grandad haha

  • dont plan on riding like a grandad

    sportives

  • Raising money for certain charities, get to ride bikes at the same time.

  • bb86 on Giant's is annoying as you're essentially limited to GXP and Shimano cranks.

Not really an annoyance TBH, especially with Shimano chainset.

  • I like a more race and responsive geometry. So caad10 does seem the better option.

    There you go, sorted.

To be fair on the CAAD10, it's pretty comfortable for an aggressive frames, having said that you can make any frames idea for sportive/long ride by changing a few components easily (if the frame allow it).

  • I have to agree with Ed (on the ease of BB86-never thought I'd say that)
I think the BB30 is quite often a pain inthe ass. I mean you can normally tell when a Cannondale is near, as theres a distinctive sound every NDS pedal stroke. Which leads to many hours of stripping down, re-greasing, swearing, and so on.
Still would choose the CAAD12 if I could, and the CAAD12 disc if I really could.

  • disco hubs and open pros on the bridgestone...breaks up the silver better than the tb14/da mix

  • u need matching bolts n caps.

  • And left crank arm 172,5
    yes

  • I havent posted in here for a while.. But here it goes. Finally decided to go from a 55t to a 49t chainring - just waiting on the post man. Opted for a longer stem (120cm to a 13cm) rather than a lay back seat post for a better fit. It currently feels perfect, but I can't help but feel like it looks out of proportion! (also the saddle angle has been amended)

You found your reach, now the question is whether it's comfortable enough to ride on (very little pressure on handlebar).

  • I did a 60 mile ride to Southend on this. No wrist pain!

  • Great to know, usually on tarck frames, steep seat tube often bring the person too far forward, which isn't the case from the sound of it.

  • True, I was mainly referring to that being what you're limited to: no 30mm spindles unless you want complex, short life bearings and the market is generally moving towards 30mm. BB30 can do any crank with good size bearings.

But I agree with eyebrows, bb30 for it's original intended purpose with c-clips and pressing them is generally a bit shit

  • At the moment, the only groupset manufacturer that are making 30mm spindles are SRAM.

At the moments, quite a fair number of aftermarket manufacturer are making 30mm spindles.

I don't know why but BB86/90 were a piece of piss in comparison to BB30, in term of reliability.

  • I was about to argue that the 24mm spindles mean you can used it on threaded bottom bracket, until I realised this exist.

  • Rackhacker mod done. Handed it over to Armourtex this morning. Went with RAL 7009 in the end after seeing this:

  • @FredyCro

This is the fixture I used for the mod above^
This is machine using CNC and Lathe, but I have previously made do with plate fixture similar to this:

  • looking forward to seeing IRL

  • waw !

  • Good stuff.

@svendhöek 's thread and @Hulsroy 's contributions made me wonder is there a bike hacking thread on here? I would subscribe to that :-)

  • @Hulsroy @svendhöek cheers, looks more simple then it is I guess. If the time ever comes I'll contact you for more info :) Specialized will be look nice in that green for sure!
