  • I have been known to wipe bike down on arrival at work as well as on arrival at home...

    Baby wipes FTW

I have on occasion contemplated wheeling the bike into the disabled showers at work for a quick rinse down...

  • There are specialist websites on the net for that, definitely NSFW and probably against company policy

  • Reports say the pedestrian suffered a serious head injury.

  • I have learnt to avoid these [Sivyer] lorries having seen them around SE the last few years, I agree their driving is noticeably erratic, fast and dangerous.

Is there a thread for straightforward naming and shaming of terrible driving by liveried, company vehicles. It would be good to start a list.

  • I started it a while ago, got quickly shut down (rightly so).

  • Bloody lawyers! So presumably, people can still report incidents on the commuting or bad drivers threads, but it's not acceptable to have a whole thread dedicated to it?

  • No, it just it's best to watch out for ALL of them rather than the few.

    Bit like #notallmen but #notalltippers.

  • Bar stone chips it should be able to take it? It's just, err, dirt. (u no cyclocross I take it)

But like a new car/sofa/anything else...until it has battle scars there's always this "must stay pristine" phase ;)

  • @TurtleRecall
Give it time and yours could look like mine (and thousands of others)

    Lubed it now :)

  • Do you read them bedtime stories too? :)

  • No, it just it's best to watch out for ALL of them rather than the few.

I was thinking more about a thread indicating companies that you don't want to give your business to because they're shit on the roads.

  • Minding my own business. Happily spinning over (the clusterfuck that is) Blackfriars bridge, when female ped runs blindly between traffic and right into my path.

No time to do anything but hit her full on.. She flies. I'm over the handle bars landing on neck/shoulder and onto comfy Mission Workshop.

    Tears, apologies on her part..

What are you doing? You need to be careful, your lucky it wasn't a motorbike, are you OK?, from me.
She's Ok. Bike OK. I'm, for the most part, OK. Big headache and a very sore shoulder and neck.

  • Ahh sorry to hear mate, glad you got away relatively unscathed.

  • Ta.. bumps and bruises..

  • You just know she's giving her own edited version of events, probably involving you jumping a red light and being on the pavement, all at the same time.

I've just about given up ever filtering these days, but I don't ride in central London very often so it's not a massive problem for me.

It sounds like you should get yourself checked by a medic if you've got a headache, heal up fast.

  • Maybe. She was incredibly apologetic and plenty of peds, cyclists and motorbikes stopped to help out. I was in clear traffic in the 'bus' lane. She just 'whack-a-moled' out of nowhere.

I was at massive pains to ensure she was OK and didn't rant off on her.

Her Burberry mac was proper fucked.

  • Cadence check this morning said 135rpm on the flat on 48x18 gears! Not looking forward to the ride home quite as much!

  • Only got 16/18 freewheels :(

Spend some money then! 42/17 FTW!

  • Redundant in July, restarted work in December, awaiting first proper paycheck this week.

42/17 will have to wait. May treat myself to a Steamroller frame in a few months time when cash is spare again........ hopefully legs will be more like 46/something :)

  • Shit.. sorry, hadn't picked up on that.

  • :(

Fair play for not ranting at her, hard not to when you're hurt.

  • I got she was more hurt and scared than me.. No point making thing worse.

  • Yeah, think it's that 'brand new' thing. More about the gears etc staying clean and free of road grit and crap for as long as possible. Kinda difficult to clean my bike now I live in a flat, no access to a garden or hose :(

  • Did you get her address? Send her a signed pic. The one where you're holding Kylie.
