I use gpx track files. I've tried turn-by-turn but seem to prefer the purple line without any turn warnings. I just zoom in a bit when I'm in town and zoom out when it's country lanes. But on the last Audax (Willy Warmer) I used an unedited gpx file (I generally edit them first just to tweak and check) due to laziness and found that the distance to next was working perfectly.
I'll experiment with that first waypoint and see what happens.
