  • Is it just because its custom and not worth taking the risk?

It worth it if you don't plan on looking after your bike, like, ever.

  • I can't be bothered to build it up then strip it down. Especially since within 24 hours it'll all be done. Not sure why I bothered waiting for the original shop - didn't think it'd take over a month to get the stuff in stock though.

It's not worth taking the risk for a custom frame made of very thin steel tubing. Like it or not, steel will rust. Protecting it reduces the rust. Win!

  • There's a picture up thread, its not changed since then :(

More pics to come next week when I'm building!

  • Frame is in the shop for some waxy treatment
    :)

  • From we last spoke, their should be some progress and progress photo issues here!

  • Things are happening.

  • Almost there. Crossed the line from pile of parts to bike. It lives!

  • Nice.

  • Glad to see you've nearly got this together :-)

  • I've been taking my time, for sure...

  • Any news on this?

  • Very very close. I need the fork spot facing to take the caliper brake, which should happen this week when my LBS give me a call back. Then it's just cables !

  • Also I need a curved washer for the front mech, it's inexplicably missing.

  • What wall bracket are you using please?

  • This thread is torture... (insert smiley here)
I thought I was slow taking a month to fit mudguards!

  • Still hampered by the fork not wanting to accept the front brake. Just been chatting to Blue Door Bikes, should be popping in to see them tomorrow so fingers crossed that they ( @coldharbour ?) can sort it - then I can fit the brake, cable up and wrap the bar tape, then it'll be done done done.

  • It's just the back of the brake hole that need widening is it?

  • I think the front needs spot facing. I've offered up a bolt and the front doesn't look perpendicular to the bolt axis.

  • Don't worry, Matt has a special tool for flattening things out.

  • Is that normally used on bikes, or on people who take too long to build their bikes?

  • I'm hoping it's not for customers who don't ride their bikes often enough.

  • Le progress.

  • Fork reamed and spot faced by blue door bikes. Hurrah! Now just cables and bar tape to go. I shall try to get a good photo tomorrow if weather allows.

  • Surely the framebuilder should have done that? Or is this a question not worth asking...

  • Sure, they should have, but c'est la vie. Getting it sorted cost a tenner so I'm not going to sweat it.
