Great to meet Jo(h)nnyw and Samwell the other day. Really good session. Cook Daily/Home is a pretty useful place to meet!

I really liked Daiya, last time I was in Toronto it was all over the shop, never tried it so I gave it a bash and loved it... I think you might be able to get it in Vx in Kings Cross sometimes and @andy_k you're right about Vegusto, they sell it in Whole Foods, expensive for what it is but it's the best vegan cheese I've had so far

i'm liking most of the violife uncheeses. had some of the 'for pizza' stuff in quesadillas today and it melted pretty well. pretty mild taste though.

vegan meat (sorry meet)
As with most of these concepts, there are some people who quite persistently talk about vegan meat, thinking that it's important to widen the concept out. I'd rather they didn't, but it would certainly be good to have new words for all those chunky/chewy things that vegans can eat.

On vegan 'cheeses', I can't say I'm a massive fan but I've always been interested in following the development of this stuff. There's a German brand called Wilmersburger which is quite good, as are Vegusto (Swiss) and Violife (Greek). There's also an Austrian brand called Vegourmet which many rate and recommend, but I haven't tried that one yet. I doubt I'll buy any of them much unless they become less expensive.

"you think my shoes are made of leatherrrrr!"

Would, but I'm not in London. Keen to try it out, flaky vegan open times won't put us off ;)

Also, on the cheese front, anyone tried Tyne Chease? It's the best I've tried...

I haven't found anything with the 'complexity' in terms of taste/texture that real meat has, although I've eaten a lot of vegan food and meat substitutes. I guess it's not a big deal if you have strong reasons to be vegan but I think for more casual adopters it is important.
I would be interested in any ideas/tips!

I received my first ever order from Rose bikes this morning (Challenge, Paris Roubaix Tires)
Rather than having to dispose of the dead cow related sweets (Wiggle) the free gift from Rose Bikes was a new Buff, perfect for this cold morning.

Food blogger/writer Jack Monroe has gone vegan:

I'm still reeling from a recent convert not turning and mercilessly attacking everyone around them and it could be a really good column.

Never read his blog before, and surprise surprise, haters are commenting so I felt obliged to write on there myself.
Yeh they are good. I think trying to crack a homemade brew is the way to go down for now. Will report back if successful.
