Opinion on this building?
-
• #1860
Wow. I like it, just so bold. Almost too stark? Wonder if they couldn't have done something more interesting with the facade to break it up apart from the lattice structure.
-
• #1861
Also - it's a fucking massive jam tart!

My first impression of was that it was awful, but having looked again my opinion is changing. I think it's just not very interesting does the shape have a function? i dont think so. But I can't really find any information on it, It would be interesting to work there though.

does the shape have a function
Only to minimise the efficiency of the footprint and maximise the build cost :-)
I think it's one of those "because we can" buildings. -
• #1864
Yeah haha, architects playing in their sandbox.
-
• #1865
interesting but "now entirely privately owned" - essentailly a failure in social housing terms then
-
• #1867
Yisss! Pew pew pew!

Looks shit.
You can build a great big circle coming out the ground, nice work lads.
Doesnt really interact with the surrounds much?
-
• #1870
Other than a cave what's going to interact with a desert?
-
• #1871
Anything? Literally anything that doesn't look like it's stuck in it. Multilayered modernist building with some sort of arched wall that rises from ground level and surrounding a portion of the building? Its next to water, could they not have played with that somehow? Marseille has some great new water front buildings.

It's similar to Radisson in Frankfurt
Makes no sense until you're in a taxi from the airport, it's the first thing you notice on your way into town, and then it's there glowing in the horizon for quite some time. Pretty clever in that sense.

This is a waterfront building in the UAE that plays with the water theme.

Besides, the desert's fairly inhospitable so I guess they don't think anything has to really interact with it.
