  • training tonight.night racing thursday in Eastleigh. coaching saturday in forest. new forest race sunday at Ashhurst. having a quiet january

  • They are better for running than for cycling.

Most use the Mio chipset so probably best to choose the watch that matches your other requirements. The old TomTom running watch us heavily discounted at the moment if you shop around.

  • Thanks. The old TomTom is on the list and quite a good price as you say.

@Greenbank Have been looking at DCRainmaker as there are always good reviews on there.

  • It's still getting software updates including some new features, and the OHM is the Mio one (latest version uses one from a different vendor). For the money it's a good deal.

  • Due to a very slow start I'm only on 60km for January so far, need to up my game. Though possibly not tomorrow as when the pre-recorded athlete dude on my Nike Running app congratulated me on my run tonight and told me to make sure I get out again tomorrow I swore out loud at him.

  • first run from moorgate to morden in the bag. was slow but fairly comfortable. my garmin stopped counting distance for almost 2 miles going through tooting in spite of it still tracking my pace and the gps track following my exact route for the entire distance. frustrating.

my garmin is 2 and a bit years old now so may invest in a new one soon. slightly quirky fr620 may be up for sale soon.

  • also tooting is shit. every single run through there I'll encounter numerous people who look me in the eye, then step straight into my path when i'm 1m away from them.

  • ^ aim shoulder, dip, accelerate. They'll get the point.

In other news Eoin #2 has won the Spine race inside 4 days. Amazing.

  • Any other good looking events in the area?

I'll have a think. If you want a 10k PB, come down for Poole 10k in June.
    Are you doing Reading Half?

  • @Pifko @Arducius @_Leon any of you doing Lymington 10km, early May?

  • Who would have thought 3 weeks is enough time for lots of fitness to disappear, and who would have thought that attempting 8x800m intervals at (last seen before Christmas) 5k pace was a good idea as a first run to get back into it. Managed 5 before the fuck-it valve blew.

  • @rhb the Lymington 10k is 2 weeks after London, after which I fully anticipate needing a good rest so unlikely to go for that one. Looks like a nice course though.

@Pifko Could go for Poole, looks familiar territory! Are you running it? Yes, signed up for Reading - hoping for a HM pb whilst taking it relatively easy at the same time. But really should just take it easy and enjoy the run! Care to join me?

I've been considering it. It's a fast course and I'd like a PB too. Earliest train arrives (pending no delays) in Reading at 9:30am - cutting it fine for a 10am start. Might have to rent a car...

  • It is a nice route yes but too close to London you're right.

Might hit it up with an overdue Family visit same time...

  • Spenser is currently in a grouo running (walking/crawling) with my clubmate #38 it seems by the tracker dots. @user49586 is a few hours ahead of them both.

Awesome effort from all and I hope they make the remaining CP's and finish inside any cutoffs.

  • guys Poole is my only distance race priority of the year

  • Yep. Only point in doing 10k.
Actually ill be doing 10 k on Guernsey easter runs. Google that it's a great weekend
Bike to Poole. Ferry. Race . Race. Ferry included and Race on Herm.10k
    Weekend to remember

  • Did a run that reminds me how much I enjoy running last night, 10 mile loop including about 5 miles along the thames path between Maidenhead and Windsor, proper bog trotting, unfortunately my headtorch was woefully dim, think the batteries must be nearly dead, but a massive smile on my face nonetheless!

A bit short on distance for the year so far but making steps in the right direction this week, looking forward to Wokingham Half marathon in Feb, haven't run a half marathon other than pace making for a couple of years so looking to improve my 1:27:58 pb by a few minutes!

Ah shame, I'm in Yorkshire for Easter.
Plenty of off-road around Malham for me though.

Yasso 800's ? I've got them today - What times were you aiming for?

  • Yasso 800's ? I've got them today - What times were you aiming for?

Wasn't setting out to do Yasso's but it's a happy coincidence. Wednesday is my speed work day and so (as suggested by PhilPub) I'm rotating through 800m, 1km and 1mile intervals and building up to 10x800m, 8x1km and 6x1mile (should hit that just before the Brighton Marathon taper begins) and then I'll carry it on for the 20 weeks after that to IM Wales, just to make that run hurt slightly less.

Current paces are 5:15/km for the 800m and 5:34/km for the 1km/1mile but this is still me with loads of extra weight (10kg to go), so that's a 4h20 marathon (I'm never going to be fast, I'm not a runner).

Hoping to get down to 4:30/km for the 800m intervals which fits with my plan for a sub-22 parkrun and a 3h45 marathon but 4h is looking more realistic. Depends on how committed/lazy I am in the next 12 weeks.

Today's 11.5km plod into work went well, so I'm a bit happier after yesterday's plug pulling after 5 of the 8 intervals. Should have applied the HTFU spray and just got on with it.

Enjoy your Yasso's. I find 800m much much nicer than the 1km and 1mile versions. Ugh, that's my next two weeks.

  • got a 20 minute threshold (3:58 min Kms) session to do now, haven't been to the track in ages so going to do it on the track to keep things simple.

hope its open, although I do slightly begrudge spending £2 to go running there (especially as I spent a year running there for free!)

  • that was ace - loving running at the moment - 19:40 ish 5k the morning after a 10 mile run, clearly not suffering too much from 3 weeks off training!

  • Nice one. I hate trying to run fast in the morning.

Thursday's tempo night for me, and I'm happy to pay a bit to do this on a floodlit track in the Winter because I'm not a big fan of running on pavements in the dark (and scaring those poor pedestrians). Also good for keeping splits nice and regular. So 5 miles/20 laps, with 3 miles there and 3 miles back.

  • Yasso 800's ? I've got them today.

I appreciate the whole 'predict your marathon time' is probably bollocks, but I averaged 3:09 for 800m over the 7 reps. Quite promising as I'm targetting a sub3:30 mara.
