Apparently that's how Roberto Visentini liked it (prefiguring Ondřej Sosenka's "straight arm" position for his hour record), but the UCI commissaire wasn't so keen and made Roberto ride a more conventional lo-pro. You never stop to surprise me! Thanks for the info. That front wheel on that pic is insane!

The idea was to hide the rider's feet in the slipstream of the front wheel. I don't know whether it actually worked, but it got banned before anybody could find out under race conditions.

That's a bit harsh. There is an incipient mullet, but far worse crimes against hair styling were committed in the 1980s (Robert Millar, Gert Jan Theunisse and Phil Anderson spring immediately to mind)

I don't mean to cause controversy, but what's the fuss about Colnago's?

I was being deadly serious.
I just don't get it. Other than some novelty shaped tubing, there's little or no difference between them and other quill-stemmed geared bikes, yet they seem to command the most ludicrous respect.
Drape a bit of carbon on them or some deep rims and suddenly they're "sick".

You're absolutely right, but there's no point discussing it. You just have to accept that people associate great riders with the average bikes they happen to have been paid to sit on, and Ernesto was clever enough to pick the right teams to sponsor.

Not necessarily an expert. I bought one years ago in my early twenties and found quite unremarkable, with little or no difference to an Orbit I had prior to it.
Like a hell of a lot of Italian engineering it was just mediocre. The finishes of the welding weren't great and it felt painfully flimsy. It sat in the garage for years before I sold it on.
I do always look at them on eBay, but can't really see what the fuss is all about. That lo pro was lovely though - better to look at than actually ride. Again: like most Italian engineering.

Anyway - Woody's significantly cooler than Wesley.
