  • @>>>>>> had my N5 since it's release date and aside from a slightly struggling battery i have no desire to change phones.

Probably going to replace the battery and phone back with OEM for the cost of a a few latte rather than a new phone.

  • I've put my unopened n5 in the classifieds if any one is interested? last push before I ebay it?
    shameless

  • Tbh i wouldn't sell that. I'd either use it or leave it sealed. Probably leave it sealed. Not your average phone. Sort of a landmark phone for Android.

  • not really a handset question, but anyone here on Virgin mobile? Are the any good? Can't cut a sweet deal with O2 my current provider and they seem to be about £4 more a month for similar deals than virgin etc...

  • A united flight I did SFO - >Frankfurt had TVs . Yes no personal entertainment, just those old school CRT TVs in the roof.

  • Loving the z5 compact so far. Everything except the slow camera performance - sometimes just takes an age to launch which completely negates one of it's main selling points. Otherwise, good screen, great battery life (48 hrs easily) and just being unobtrusive. Side mounted fingerprint unlock is excellent.

Particularly like the sound quality when using FLAC files.

  • Virgin use the EE network !? I've had great experience (in the provinces) on EE for years.
I have both SIM's in my OPX and the Virgin one usually shows better reception than the EE one - how is that possible ? Just saying as I find.
I'm only on 3G at present, so that may not cover your question fully.

I was about to leave EE (due to BT 4G £5 deal), but their retention team offered me 3Gb of 4G, + unlimited mins and TXT for £9.99 for 12 months, so I'm staying now. That was much better deal than I found by searching the web........ I now dread someone telling me I could have got the same for less :-(

  • Anyone got a Sat Nav app shout out?

  • Went and got a linx 7 tablet, updating it to windows 10 now. Seems good for £50 so far.

  • google maps!! fully updated, show's current traffic/shortest route and iz free.

  • ^ This.

    Google Navigation rocks!

  • Okay thanks. Will try google out then. Never used the navigation on it before. But have seen the traffic bit.

  • I've used the TomTom app. Not the cheapest but has all the functionality of a full sat-nav with the bonus of all maps being available offline (useful for travelling/crap reception).

  • Google Maps navigation is scarily good.

So good I don't even use a mount or screen. I just connect the bluetooth to the stereo in my car, put some music on, and let Google Maps reduce the volume to give me spoken directions.

And it hasn't failed me once.

Seriously, not a missed turning or anything.

And without having the screen on, I barely use a couple of % of battery in a 1 hour drive.

I can't recommend Google Maps highly enough for sat nav.

  • does google map navication follow a gpx route and give turn directions? obviously google's normal navigation will be less useful to @skinny in the transcontinental race

  • No. It gives you it's route.

  • That's what i thought. italy doesn't have google bicycle routing and i'm definite most of the balkans/greece/turkey won't

  • I just connect the bluetooth to the stereo in my car, put some music on, and let Google Maps reduce the volume to give me spoken directions.

I sort of do the same but have Ingress running while I drive.

  • Only for on the motorbike dude. To get me places.
Garmin works gold for on bike gpx routing.

  • Interesting. Wanted it on the motorbike. So that could work well, I use ear plugs right now but in ear headphone will be okay. Will give it a go.
I would like to be able to see the screen though, so can make decisions on the fly if I want.

  • The great thing with Google navigation is being able to set your cycling speed. So you get an idea of how long a route will take.

This has saved my arse a few times.

  • How do you do that?

  • The only thing with Google Maps that ever catches me out is that I don't seem to be able to voice accept new routes.

This is the "A faster route is now available and will save 12 minutes, click Accept to use the new route.".

Without the screen visible, mounted, easy to reach... there's nothing I can do but stay on the slower route. There isn't an "auto-accept faster routes if it saves more than 10 minutes" option. There doesn't appear to be a voice command to accept the new route.

But that's it. The only criticism I have.

It even lets you offline store maps so that you can navigate and route without a phone signal (though obv' you miss the traffic notifications).

  • Can't seem to do it now.
I've definitely done it before. It was set to cycle speed 15kph. So exaggerated journey time quite a lot.

  • Yeah, I never ride that fast.
