  • Hoping this is of interest to some people here, my friend has started his own business. I know very little about this kind of thing but some photography people we were talking to about it got super-excited so I figure it's of note. In any case he is a fucking ace photographer and knows his shit. http://www.analogue-arts.com

  • I like this.

I'm into 'unresolved' stuff at the mo'.

I think her wonky left leg helps this :-)

  • So, I got a rather unexpected gift from my granddad - his old Leica!

I know nothing about it however. I plan to get it refurbished, not fussed about the cost tbh - just super nice to shoot on my granddad's old camera!

So, can anyone shed any light on it?

  • Looks like a Leica IIIf - Ken Rockwell has a summary here:
    http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/screw-mount/iiif.htm

The lens looks like this collapsible 50mm :

IMHO you've a beautiful piece of kit for some old school thought-out photography.

  • IIIf or IIIc ... go to see Ivor at Red Dot Cameras once he's re-opened. Don't go anywhere else - and be nice and have a good chat to him. Make sure he looks it over and has it sent to his repair guy (whose name I've forgotten). They worked magic on a couple Leicas I've owned in the past.

Key thing to remember is a Barnack Leica requires a long leader on the film, so you will/must learn quickly how to cut and load film, or buy the expensive cutting template to make it easier.

Don't change the shutter speed before winding on to the next frame. Never ever ever force anything.

The adjustments for a viewfinder are quite easy - easy to mess up as well, so if it's not aligned take it to the shop.

You could also try Aperture, but I would always recommend Ivor at Red Dot first.

  • I'm not based in London so gonna try this place: http://www.cameratiks.co.uk/repairs

From what I can see, it's a lovely camera and I'm excited to use it. I'll just have to learn how to use the blooming thing!

  • Thanks dude - looks to be the one!

  • A friend's father was clearing out his freezer, and gave me some of his old, unshot film. He shot a lot of commercial stuff in the eighties- advertising etc, but only uses digital now.

    jackpot.

  • Holy shit, i see Kodachrome in there as well... Nice haul dude.

  • Portra 160 nc too!

  • Are you selling all of these only in order to get a haircut?

  • jackpot

    ..jackpot indeed! Nice.

Didn't know there was film made by 3M until now..

  • Hey Nefarious, my favourite 35mm outfit was the OM-1 system, and my multipurpose portrait lens was the Elicar 90mm f2.5 (OM mount of course). Really a stunning lens.

On checking back, it seems like I'd recommended this before:

  • Anyone got a cheap working Polaroid they'd be willin to sell?

  • Just picked up a 50mm 1.4 so gonna keep my eyes peeled for a 90mm next.

  • My little collection:

The Widelux seems to get most use, followed by the Rollei.

  • Great cameras.. you have a tumblr / flickr / something?

  • Nope. I don't really shoot for the sake of it these days, I just use one of these for adventures or events. Some are here, starting from the North East Victorian Bakery Tour
