It was a bit tongue in cheek as the discussion seemed to be around heritage US boots, but when I was working on a site it seemed like 9/10 of the guys working had those.
Being too much of a tart (and broke) I went for some traditional Cat/Dickies style ones. Which in fairness worked perfectly well and only cost about £20. They were also surprisingly light considering they had steel toes.

Ox.
Blood.
Swift key seems to be absolute denial that those two words can co-exist.
@b&d - cheers

Even Timpsons do an oxblood polish.
Maybe the seller doesn't know the difference between Blake and Goodyear, just saw stitching on the sole and wrote what their expert mate told them.

Not that I have an amazing selection of multi-coloured shoes, but I do get through rather a lot of neutral cream and wax.
Regardless of your thoughts on animal cruelty etc, Saphir really is the best. Lobb do a repackaged version of it, but this is a little pricey.

That's what I figured. Pretty sure nowadays if shoes have a Goodyear welt they always take the opportunity to say so.
If they didn't fit I might have argued, but at the end of the day they seem like a fair price and aren't going to get hammered. The back of the shoes are cut quite a bit lower than my other shoes though.
@b&d - that's what I was thinking of getting. I really do need to build up my shoe cleaning kit now I've got a few none black colours. I used to manage by taking nonstandard stuff to my folks as and when, but the time has come to build my own little box of shoe bits.
As the resident expert, do you know if "made in England" Grensons are made in England?
-
• #4832
I'm not the resident expert...
As for where they're made, I'm pretty sure that Tim Little's own brand are still made here whilst Grenson may not well be.

@hugo7 I'll trot this out again: http://www.permanentstyle.co.uk/2014/10/tim-little-and-grenson-explained.html
I think that should clear it up, possibly with a little internet research after.

Very nice indeed.

Anyone know of anywhere that has redwings on sale?
-
• #4839
Not really, The Christy sole, does wear down quick. I found the Moreflex version lasts a bit longer, and are lighter.(saying that I have a pair of 1990's black RW's with black soles, and they have lasted years...maybe a different rubber??)
You could go for a full lugged Vibram unit.
I'm trying the Dr Sole wedges atm, similar style, but quite a bit heavier than the Vibrams.
I'll report back. -

Rubbersole? I got a slightly better deal there six months ago, though.
-
• #4841
Yeah keep looking at rubbersole, generally have styles I don't like in sizes I can't wear..
Will keep checking it..

The black sole off a 8804 will last forever, I've had mine since the late 90s and they're still going strong... Still a bit slippy, which is surprising for a work boot, but way better grip than an 875...
-
• #4843
The Red Wing store would be able to recommend another sole if you wanted one anyway, I know they have the 8804 because there were a couple waiting to be picked up when I picked up my resoled 875s...

• #4844
I really like the 269 sole on my White's boots; hard wearing and decent grip in the wet, useless on ice.
-
• #4845
Could you go for the supersole?
-
• #4846
ooohh I like the look of that. Any idea where I could get those fitted?
-
• #4847
Schweet, cheers mate.
-
• #4848
2245 pattern less smooth than 'supersole' very hardwearing
-
• #4849
Cheers mate.
