  • I don't use them. I just took the batteries out of them yesterday so they were in mind. Just thought if you were having trouble with a strap you could try one of my PT ones.

  • Ah, I see. Not needed (but thanks for the offer) as the old Garmin HRM1 straps from my Edge 705 and Forerunner 110 work fine with the 920xt.

  • Holy shit batman, something from Garmin works?!

  • Eventually it does. Replacement HRM-Tri strap arrived in the post just now and it works. Will try it out properly later (10k run if I can be arsed) but I've got a boat load of work to do today before I'm off for Christmas.

Haven't had any problems with the 920xt yet.

  • My 1000 has been nearly faultless.

A few hiccups along the way, but for the time it's been used, nothing that bad.

Only real negative is that the screen locks up when it gets wet.

  • I was tempted to get one but it's like being the abused partner. Keep going back for more. Fucking Garmin Stockholm Syndrome™

I figured that it was working for Steve A during his year record it should work for me. But I'm so sick of faulty Garmin products that I really don't want to waste more of my time with another one. Also the size and the battery life annoy me.

  • I looked around, there is no other option. Or I'd spend my money elsewhere.

If you want to forget power data, you could look at the oregon garmin series.

  • I was going to get an etrex 30 as a backup to my Edge 800. Everyone seems to rate them. Then I thought, hang on, I own a Vista HCx, I'll just use that. I can't find my bike mount for it though.

  • Yeah the etrex isn't any better. I asked a few peoples, no more reliable than my 1000.
So don't think it's the holy grail of a reliable garmin.

  • Does the Wahoo range work with Android yet?

  • Thank you for using DuckDuckHippy

  • Genuinely - kick up le massive fuss with Garmin - preferably at a cycle show or similar where they have actual people employed by them present and are trying to make sales. Got me a free upgrade (although yes I had to pay for return shipping of the 810).

Although if you can return for a refund, looks like the price for the 1000 has massively dropped recently - 275 on Amazon. They must have a new one coming out or something.

  • Etrex 30; the one with the batteries from the supermarket? Who what when? Speak up or forever shut.

  • Just don't ride in the rain.

When your 800 cracked before Loudeac, yes I thought it would maybe not seize this time, I just used my 705 again and stopped every 200.

  • Yeah with batteries.

A guy I met in Italy. Asked him how it was, and he just looked at me and said like every other garmin.

  • Was his name Da Vinci?

  • I'm returning the 810 to the retailer. It's not fit for purpose.

The 1000 is actually cheaper than what I paid for the 810 but I'd hate to give them more money for another product that fails intermittently. I can't be dealing with that shit half way through a race.

  • I can't be dealing with that shit half way through a race.

    Ride for fun instead!

Oh shit, Garmin going wrong is still fucking annoying.

  • No. I wish I exchanged details with him though. Could have learnt a lot from him.

He was about 65. Riding 200+k a day from Lisbon to his home in Poland. Absolute hero. Was skinner and more tanned than I was. Hero.

  • During my 600k qualifier for PBP it repeatedly locked up and caused much anguish during the night.
I have no data from my (aborted) Worlds this year.
The unit shut off as soon as I started the timer right before my 30mi club record race.
On Saturday's ride where it turned off and lost the first half hour of the ride - usually not important but I was trying to verify a route.

Garmin 810s are not fit for purpose.

  • 810 sent back for refund. I'd say 'thanks for the memories' but it never fucking retained any...

  • Have you tried letter Garmin know via twitter?

  • Yep, they replaced one already.
