I got my father a combined walking cane/brolly from the same place, no flight for me however.

For the record, Air Canada has tweetered me back and one is allowed to bring a cane onto the flight even if it is a gift/not their own.

Who know? it's a straddle cable.

There's two type, one that's loose, and the other that tighten the straddle cable in place.

Looking at the photo, it look like the bolt tighten both the cable and staddle cable, look a bit of a PITA* compare to this;

*found another photo showing the back, look like it just required a spanner to hold it, and doesn't lock the straddle cable too, very simple, but doubt it's worth spending money on compare to this.
