I've bought a cane from James Smith and Sons as a gift for my father-in-law, with which (the cane) I'm flying to Canada tomorrow. It's too large to fit in our checked luggage and exceeds carry-on size limits. I kind of like the bag they've packed it in - I think he'll get a kick out of it. So what are my options here? Fuck off the bag and pretend I need it or explain that it's a gift and hope that there is some sort of reasonableness in the world of flying?
