Basically mini-courses from reputable universities offering something between a taster-level and a full university unit level of understanding. They're very low price/free, fairly high standard, but (mainly) utilise peer marking.

So for example, I'm an engineer, and I'm starting to be moving in the direction of project management. It's still too early for me to consider an MPM or an MBA, nor do I need extra qualification in my current work environment.

A few MOOC providers have some Project Management mini courses which run through the fundamentals, and some more established concepts, which would be handy for me to supplement starting out.

Of course, it doesn't have to do with your job. I'm also interested in a few business courses, history, technology etc...the selection is really huge. Most of the single course ones are free too. They don't really provide any formal qualification as such though, so it can't be used as a substitute if you need that "piece of paper".
