Full gallery here, not many pics of the pomp unfortunately but a few wonky pics of the south of France!

Ordered a Pompino frameset for a winter beater/cx since they're going cheap.
Most certainly will not be Google image searching 'Pompino' at work for inspiration again.

Changed the original fork back to pompino - damn, it's so much better than i remembered 8)

A badly taken photo of my pomp, with riser bar, pizza rack and a bit of orange:

at the behest of @youramericanlover even though i can't take a good picture to save my life:
built up a fun beater pompino for (fixed) commuting and sscx, couldn't find any black chainsets lower than a 42 lying around so at the moment it's silver but soon i'll replace with black and put some crabon forks on. currently testing some TVR paint for cole coatings - the pictures don't do it justice at all, it's a subtle intergalactic delight irl:

Stupid question, but why not get a bigger cog?

Same applies to @youramericanlover.

ha, not a stupid question. i had a basic idea of which ratios i could use that fulfilled the folloing criteria:
- ~50GI singlespeed and ~60GI fixed
- ergo max 4 teeth between fixed and ss cogs for flipflop (luckily pomp dropouts are fairly long)
- odd t fixed cog for max skid patches (arguably unnecessary but old habits etc)
i had a 44t on there to start with but you'd have to run a 19t cog and a 23t freewheel which is basically a dishplate. it's massive. do not want.
laner argued fairly convincingly for marginally better power transfer with a larger chainring when i joked about the marginal gains of running a smaller chainset and cog, but basically the biggest factor was that i just wanted a smaller one - i preferred the aesthetic. i don't have many standards when it comes to bikes but when i want something i'll do it.
@amey it was literally all i had in the house! i'm not abashed, they do the job
@andyp i'll keep it in mind (YAL and i could be pompino princesses together)! still ultra bruised from incredibly cross and then offroading all sunday

Does that also mean you need to reset the brake shoes position every time?
That make sense, both of the gearing actually sound pretty good, the other thing that's worth taking in consideration is that the tyres sizes have an effect on the GI (unless they're identical sized).

saw the pics of this on cole coatings insta, looks rad.

• #5564
yeah - readjusting the brake shoes isn't much hassle though, i don't mind doing it, and i'm not planning on running massive tyres on it at any point anyway >^.^< should be fine!

This is so tight - @ioreka is right, the paint is like a whole other thing in real life. I am INCREDIBLY JEALOUS of the awesome text, I want something that would suit my punk rock lifestyle now too, like 'Kind Regards' or 'M&S 4 LIFE'- and Pomp princess madison team! Cheers for the shout @andyp it might be perfect as I don't think there will be much of a NYE for me.
I agree the gearing is good. I didn't realise (tho it makes perfect sense) that tyre size affects GI and it might explain why my the 66 on my pomp feels more like 69 or something now that I have 35 knobblies. Shit is not easy to mash around in the mud.

I'm sure I saw @youramericanlover practising madison skills* with @xkittyx? in Epping Forest.
*possibly just some intense hand-holding.

...The 66 on my pomp...
That's a gearing I usually ride on the road with.

Yeah I know it's too high but I have alfine cranks with a 39t and white industries 16t cog. Atm can't afford another nice WI 18(or 19)t rear cog. Guess I could go for a clickster but I also don't have a freewheel removal tool. As far as I can see I'll have to HTFU
-
• #5570
To be quite honest, those cheap freewheel (as long it's not Shimano) will work pretty well, the lovely freewheel are noticable when you're going slowly.
TL:DR I'm calling you slow.

I also don't have a freewheel removal tool.
Assuming that I didn't bother to read this ^ bit ( I'm sure somebody on here would lend you the tool ), then you can get a nice replacement cog for your WI freewheel, for about the same price as a Clickster.

Looks like someone's going to get an awkwardly long hug from me for Christmas. Thanks!

Gonna be really annoying and ask again if anyone has a Medium V4 that I can sit on for a moment to guide me on sizing? Cheers mucho.

Bring it on, yal.

I believe the cog 16t is different than the 17t-22t. It's got different bearings and a blue lock ring rather than red.
Throwing this out again.
