  • Seconded

My carbon seat stays are thinner than Kate moss yet the power transfer is way better than on my steel bike (which I basically no longer ride)

Going back to the C5, despite all that talk about solving the disc brake chain line issue on the r3, cervelo seemed to have reverted to the lwb solution that everyone else uses here. I think it makes bikes under steer in higher speed corners

  • cervelo seemed to have reverted to the lwb solution

When did 39.6" suddenly become LWB?

  • The Merckx was not exactly neither uncomfortable nor dull. And a C50 rode more or less like the Etape.

  • Speaking from experience i had a r3sl that they would not warranty for a crack . Bought a ritchey and it pees all over the cervelo in the comfort stakes .

  • Hideous . The company will not gain any new riders with this incarnation . The C stands for comfort .
Buy a steal bike if you want comfort.

are you suggesting a stolen bike would be more comfy?

  • I had a Corsa Extra made from slx. It was one of the most uncomfortable bikes I've ever ridden.

  • I've ridden low end steel, high end modern steel, titanium, carbon, all of it. Most comfortable bikes: Roubaix s-works, synapse, r5.

Tyre pressure still makes more difference though - frame material is a bit of a red herring.

  • Roubaix s-works

    Level up: Dental surgeon

  • Boss mode.

Seriously, that bike was amazing. As light as my r5 and like a sofa. Only problem was the HT was a bit long/slack

  • Maybe my judgement is tainted as derby cycles in germany or wherever will not cover a uk warranty since they took over madison . I have here'd that even trek have a far better customer service !

  • You missed out on a CAD3 then?

  • Do you still ride your r5?

  • Must be a dark time in your life

Specialized make fucking cracking bikes. My Allez Elite rides way better that my S2 did.

  • When my mate had one of those super comfy BMC grand fondos, and I had a reputedly brutal riding feeling aero Road bike. We swapped bikes to test.

    Seemed reputation was correct.

Then we swapped wheels, and instantly felt like we were back on our own bikes again. So I definitely think the effect of comfort orientated frames is exaggerated. It's the total build.

..... Obviously I rebuilt my wheels.

  • I hope you are right, my crabon 50s were brutal - and that was on 23s! I've switched to Alu/carbon wide wheels for '16 training. Still starting to work out what to do for the summer. Has anyone got an opinion about Hed jets?

  • My wheels were 58mm deep carbon tubulars, my mates were 60mm. I switched to a 88/60 mm set of the same brand as him. Much nicer.

I have shallow alu tubulars for training. 27mm tubs on them too. So they absorb bumps.

Just don't feel so buzz free and smooth as the carbon though.

  • That gravel bike will look even more wrong with fatter tyres. You need Cannondale size tubes for that to work well.

On topic: dead R3, half dead S3, track converted P2C and now two T4s :/

  • how are you killing them?!

  • I'm a big lad :D ripped the brake bosses out the frame on the R3* and the S3 was pretty smashed already, I've had to rig up an interesting cable routing solution under the bottom bracket but it got wet and everything siezed

    *squeaky bum time

  • "what Cervelo need is a Synapse killer" said no-one ever

Actually I believe @dancing james definitely beg to differ.

  • Then we swapped wheels, and instantly felt like we were back on our own bikes again. So I definitely think the effect of comfort orientated frames is exaggerated. It's the total build.

I reckon the tyres would be the culprit here, you are running tubs after all.

  • I currently have an s3 on loan while my synapse is fixed. I prefer the synapse, bigger tyres, moar comfort.

Synapse looks better to me too.
