I know that everyone'll waffle on about the merits of diesel and the fact that diesel cars have won Le Mans, but the simple fact is that Italian cars aren't supposed to be fuelled by diesel. Frankly I don't care whether they're these god-awful sports saloons or some twice-the-price Superleggera affair - they should't be diesel.

I wonder if a second hand 6.2l n.a. merc c63 estate can be financed at 500pm yet with less than 5k down..
Can put a bike in the back, and certainly has the required exhaust bark
-
• #25656
The reason why these are not so expensive second hand is because of the ludicrous servicing bills.
-
• #25657
I should imagine you're right: take an already expensive MB service tariff structure and apply it to a V8 'performance' machine..

^This. In spades.
Add to the fact that EVERYTHING is electrical in modern Mercs. Get an electrical fault in one and you're suddenly gawping over the edge of an economic quagmire.

I would love this - used to have a dark green with black leather but it died.
1.9i auto, sweet!

Did we get 1.9i autos in the UK?
1.6 80bhp is what I remember.

Having looked at a lot of cars as the direct result of suggestions from the chorus I would now like a Ferrari estate.

B10 just a poip dream, or did it go already?
-
• #25663
Wonder which 1.9 engine it is. 405 wheels tho.
Yep UK model called the gentry from a quick google. Looks like a 1.9 gti automatic...with out the badges.

Many pipe dreams at the moment! I think a B10 would be great, that one was in fantastic condition therefore the price might well be fair - but it's around twice what they go for in general.
Objectively I should keep the Volvo, it does everything I need it to do, and I really don't actually use a car very much. But I have "new car itch" I think.
Therefore, a different fast estate, one that is fast in a different way (big cube NA rather than big turbo/low cube) might be fun.
I really want a non-metallic blue RWD manual 996 with the light interior and a roof-rack for the bikes, but I've scared myself with the IMS issue now.

B7 RS4 Avant? Fits the big cube criteria and room in the back for bikes.
I bought one about 6 weeks ago and can't get enough of it.
-
• #25666
Don't the B7 RS4's have severe issues that add up to mega money engine rebuilds? something about timing chains and bearing? (shut your ears golgol)

Pug 205 gti 1.6 below 100k miles and not red...below a bag of sand.
Are you selling? -

There were also some horrendous stories of the rear suspension systems consuming bushes like wine gums.

Get an M135i.
I fucking love mine. I've had two bikes in the back before no probs. -

This could have been an AQA but as this is a car thread.....
Here's a scenario I was posed this morning: A chap gets new tyres on his car at a tyre fitters in the morning but by the evening a wheel comes off whilst negotiating a roundabout. No injuries, no third party damage as far as I know but car recovered so there must be some damage to it.
My brother-in-law runs the fitters (his family's business). He wants to pay for any repairs etc. as it will be less than any excess they have but has anyone knowledge of a similar event and it consequences (or can wildly speculate)?
I have suggested one or more of the following:- HSE inquiry.
- Local Authority claim if road or roadside furniture was damaged.
- The car driver's insurance make a claim.
- Gentlemen's agreement.
- (I doubt) the police would get involved.
Thank you.
- HSE inquiry.

Similar event but caravan wheel...
My inlaws were not best pleased when wheel fell off after service...
(Wheel nut hit off duty coppers car)
But they nice people so just wanted it fixed.
Had it happened at 60mph on the motorway might be a different story...

If they havent been serviced by people who really know them (i.e. not even some main Audi dealerships) the timing chains can cause issues but if you find one thats been well looked after it shouldnt be a problem.
On the suspension front - the DRC suspension is known to leak (especially the rears) but is pretty easy to spot and although expensive to fix its not crippling.

Similar damage to a car depends on how the car was loaded.
One that I know of, a low sports car had bumper damage, brake disc, bottom wish bone and suspect strut damage. The car was pretty new but had both discs replaced and pads, as you replace in pairs, bottom wish bone, one strut casing and both shock inserts, hub was replaced as there was damage to the threads. Car afterwards had a caster/camber check to make sure all was inline.
