• Hey come on! I'm not a super fatty - I'm 6'6"! Oh and for commuting the bike'll usually have a Carradice SQR tour on the seatpost as well, adding to the static weight a bit.

I've always thought the idea was silly as well though, but chucking Durano Pluses (23c) on my current bike instead of Vittoria Rubinos made a hell of a (negative) difference to acceleration, climbing and avg speed. A little bit of extra rotational weight made way more of a difference than I thought it would.

  • Durano Pluses (23c)

If you're 90kg, the only place you should even be contemplating a tyre as narrow as 23mm is on the front wheel of your TT bike

  • Well the current bike is a Ribble Audax with SKS Chromoplastics, so 23c is all that'll fit under the mudguard without rubbing.

In fact, 23c Durano Pluses got me and the Ribble 1100 miles around Europe fully laden with touring gear inc. tent etc a couple of summers ago :)

The planned new bike (Kinesis 4S disc) should have room for something bigger though.
