So I can currently get the Kinesis Crosslight v4 disc wheels from Merlin for £236.

Are there any better (ideally centerlock) disc options for similar money for commuting and general riding?

That can't be true.

Good price if it is. Was thinking of grabbing some for the new bike for when weather looks a bit funny.

edit: in the reviews one guy says the weight is spot on, another says they came in 100g over.

Can't find anything about whether it come with rims tape or skewer, which will have an impact on the final weight.

In the Q&A it looks like they come with them, not sure whether that is included in the 1610g though. Could explain the extra 100g.

We've covered the Cosine wheels before. Either they are lying about the weight, or they are much lighter than similar priced wheels from manufacturers who have been in the factory wheel business for a quarter of a century rather than a couple of months. Either way, they don't look attractive.

So they're not tester approved? And since when did tester care about form over function?! At that price, I think I'll give 'em a try and use the generous wiggle return policy if they're overweight or crap.

You've either misunderstood my use of "attractive" or you're trying to be funny, I wasn't making an aesthetic judgement about Cosine wheels.

I've always cared about form with function. Have you not seen my top caps? An OTP cap and a spacer would work just as well, but I wanted pretty :-)

you might want to consider hand built, just as a for-instance Shimano M8000 hubs, DT Comp spokes and DT M520 rims come to a total of about £140 leaving plenty in your budget to get somebody else to build them for you.

Hmm, well it looks like the RT24 wheels are about 150gms heavier, also I'm about 90kg so would the fewer spokes make a difference? Handbuilts might be an idea...

Not to be blunt, but if you're 90kg I really wouldn't fret about 150g.

If you want bombproof Shimano RX31 are bit more than the DT and heavier but I'm over 90kg and commute with loaded Ortliebs and they just DNGAF.

Hey come on! I'm not a super fatty - I'm 6'6"! Oh and for commuting the bike'll usually have a Carradice SQR tour on the seatpost as well, adding to the static weight a bit.

I've always thought the idea was silly as well though, but chucking Durano Pluses (23c) on my current bike instead of Vittoria Rubinos made a hell of a (negative) difference to acceleration, climbing and avg speed. A little bit of extra rotational weight made way more of a difference than I thought it would.

^that would be the puncture breaker not the weight.
