  • Anyone who's spent any time in the Brooklyn thread will know that I've been gagging to get my hands on one of these for eons.

@DoktorPepe had one which was ideal and when I picked up some wheels from him a while back, I asked him for first refusal if he ever decided to sell. At the time he assured that his was a keeper and would never be sold, but a couple of years later I received a PM stating that the time had come. Monies changed hands and he kindly looked after it for me until I was back in the UK (March '15) and it's been sat in storage ever since.

As a result of being backwards and forwards for the next six months, I've been able to look at a new assembly project - purely because the slow acquisition of bicycle parts is something that I've come to miss over the past few years.

So, down to business: I have a Brooklyn Gangsta Track V2 with V1 forks in a Medium.

I've found the painter already and as a result of @hoops suggestion, I'll be using Ali at Fat Creations. I've had a chat with him and sent some images about what I was looking for and he's replied quickly and seems keen to get started.

As a result of my add travel/work between here and the Middle East, it's not something I need turned around in a 7-10 days. Ali understands that this is something that he can take his time on.

I narrowed the choice of custom painting down to two choices - inspiration from the Porsche Pink Pig 917 development car from 1971 (shown below, along with a Specialized SWorks) OR a humble watermelon - largely taken from @Paramounted and his recently for sale forks.

Ali looked at both ideas and of the two, the Pink Pig would cost less as a result of the watermelon requiring significantly more work. I'm going with the Pink Pig, clearly...

Now I await the slow but steady sensation of parts buying.

  • In keeping with the car, I'll be sourcing all black components where possible. Despite the car dating from 1971, I'll have the number 74 as opposed to 23.

  • Dark grey instead of black?

    Matt or gloss?

  • Gloss.

    And black, not grey.

  • Bingo. Will the names of the cuts be in English? I dig it lotz.

  • Not entirely sure, but I'm leaning towards calling it the "Porklyn".

  • It is porky after all.

  • Yeah, or Boarklyn?

  • Ha! This is all to be decided.

  • I miss my bike. Glad to see it's getting this sort of treatment.

  • heh, BUTT END, you should put that right on the top tube/seat tube junction.

  • Painter's gonna have to be pretty talented for this to not be anti

  • Ali knows his stuff, truly awesome stuff. If rob can't do you, he's the go to..

  • BMW ham-sta track?

  • Liking the Ham-sta vibe.

  • Wow they do stunning work. Can't wait to see how yours works out. Giving me unnecessary ideas for some of my bikes ;)!

  • Sorry I wasn't up for this... It,s just not really my kinda thing, and I wouldn't of had the motivation to do it properly. It's not a massively complicated job to be honest, and will look much better than your watermelon idea in my opinion. Ali will do a great job for you. He's a much better painter than me, one of the best in the country for sure.
Hope it all turns out the way you want.

  • who comes up with these paint schemes...

  • Like I said - I'm fairly confident in Ali.

  • Are you going to ride this non-halal bike in the Middle East?
